Doh! Valve Cover Gasket Leak 07 after Top End.

4 posts in this topic

Just replaced my top end and i guess i didn't seal the valve cover gasket well enough...

Did a pretty long 3 hour dune ride in Glamis, at the very end we rode 5th gear pinned from the drags back to our camp near the end of Gecko road, about 4 miles. Park the bike and see oil seeping out the left side of the gasket...

YEEHAWW!

Probably need to tear the bike down anyway to get all the sand out of everything.

Having that crisp new bike feeling out there was awesome.

It's really not a big deal. From what you described it was leaking around the 2 half moon shaped pieces. You will need to pull the valve cover and clean the the valve cover, the mating surface on the head, and the gasket (you should be able to reuse the gasket if you didn't pinch it somewhere). Put a little sealant in the 2 half moon cutouts on the head and put it back together.

that's the plan... hopefully she's all good to go after that.
