My brother is planning on making a purchase tomorrow. He's looking at an '08 yz450f. Here's the link- http://www.cycletrader.com/find/listing/2008-YAMAHA-YZ450F-95394529 Doesn't this seem cheap for a dealer? It's 800 below book. What should I look for when we are looking at it tomorrow? Input appreciated. :moon:

Be careful!

Many of the bikes were traded in that were raced hard. I know for a fact. How many hours? ect. Be careful!

Does it have an hour meter? When was the engine last freshened up? Is there proof?

It could have 200 hours on it and never been opened, therefore needing $1,000 worth of work on day one.

The clutch and ignition covers look pretty worn. Although the clutch cover looks like it has been sanded, the ignition cover still looks quite worn (my 08 ignition cover looks better with 100 hours). If they are a good dealer, they should stand behind that bike if there are any mechanical issues in the first few months, although most dealers don't have any warranty on used bikes.

He ended up buying it, but I told him and the salesman straight forward that if it was me interested, I would walk away. I think the last owner started to sand down the clutch cover and then halfway through he realized that it wasn't as easy as he thought, and then he left it alone. The bike does have a ton of compression, I have to put most of my weight (165 lbs.) on the lever with my hand and it barely budged. But who knows, I have no experience with 4t bikes. Ill snatch a pic of it real quick for yall.

How do you know it isn't a question of what happened to the stock plastics?
