Topped out at 97?

I had my '06 on pavement yesterday, Hwy 36 outside of Red Bluff and topped out at 97 mph. all mods done and uncorked.

I remember reading a past post on TT about a rev limiter? I did not find what I was looking for in the search feature.

I think the bike could go faster, but it kept shutting down at 97?

Built in safety feature? Just wondering.....

Search for 'gray wire' mod.

You must have your bike geared way up to reach 97mph......stock is about 70.

What?? My 450 '06 stock geared ( 14 / 50 ) hits the rev limiter at about 99 MPH....

You can go faster by gearing it longer, but I never did it. I'm now running 13 / 49 for tight single tracks...

Also, the grey wire mod affects the timing curve, not the rev limiter ....

Greetings...

Typo

I presume the reading was with a GPS?

I hit 70ish pretty easy a few times on my 09 (stock speedo.. i think its off a little though)

Feels like it can go alot faster thats for sure... i am stock gearing....

(stock speedo.. i think its off a little though)

it is off more than a little :smirk:

it is off more than a little :smirk:

which way is it off... so I can compensate on the road.... does it say I am going faster than I am or am I go faster than it says I am.

I am thinking that I am going faster than it says I am because everytime i ride with other buddies that have trip meeters on thier bikes... their bikes always have a couple more miles than what mine says.....

they read fast

I had my wr400 with sm tires and got up to 93 with 16/47

Stock speedo and stock rims. Gearing Commander says the same... 99 MPH stock gearing...

Like I have said in the past, UNLESS it is GPS verified, I simply don't not believe the above :smirk:

I believe in my rev limiter, and my calculator or Gearing Commander maths.... BTW, I don't want to try again hitting 100 MPH... :smirk: Too dangerous!

Believe what you want....they are wrong!

Get a GPS and really see what your doing :smirk:

my drz400 will do 100mph... so I don't see why the 450 won't do it....

My 07 WR has done 101mph according to my GPS and runs stock gearing.

Those readings do seem fast to me too. My 2003 WR450 hit 85mph with stock gearing (this was on a hard packed dirt road though). I would expect that it would hit maybe 90-95 on pavement but don't plan on finding out anytime soon. Can't afford to fix the motor when it blows b/c of abuse lol.

WR250F will hit about 83 MPH, WR450F open air box, stinger pulled will break 100 MPH. These are GPS speeds, not spoeedo, speedo will read higher. Tire choice, pressure, surface, wind and gearing all affect this, as much as 20 mph.

Why do you need to go faster? It's an "Off-road" bike!

I think thosed obbssesed with top speed are bench racers, dersert rasers and super moto riders. My DRZ 470 pulls an easy 107 uphill with 50+ hp at the rear wheel.

Is that one pavement? What gearing...oh and at least you are GPS verified :excuseme:
