Sweet quad, 49hp stock?

heck that's like 6hp over a 450r honda.

And the stock suspension is pretty sweet, but could have been a few inches wider.

I noticed heim joint a-arms, piggy back shocks that had lots of travel.

Fuel Inj would have been a big plus.

Look good too, but the ltz-450r looks best I think.

CT has the outlaw 525 pegged at 36 rear wheel HP stock and 48 with one of there pipes..... KTM is the same unit (better airbox and probably better stock exhaust )

Wow thats one shitty motor if its only putting down 36 hp. I used to dyno stock yfz 450's that put down 41-42. 45-46 HP after an exhaust and about 30 mins of jetting.

I read that the motor Polaris got was different than the one KTM used in their XC's. We'll all find out next year. ALL the makers of a 450cc(name brand) sport bikes are backing someone for '08. I got to see my first DS 450 yesterday. That will be my next one.

12 HP gain from an exhaust????? my ass, maybe a custom built pipe for a 2 stroke but not a chance on a 4 stroke without other stuff to go along with it.

There is something extremely wrong with that graph. First there is no way an exhaust pipe will create a 30% gain in horsepower over the stock pipe on this machine. The stock engine in this machine properly jetted should be around 36 to 38 hp, just where they are claiming it should be.

I don't doubt in the least their pipe improves the performance over stock. I'm guessing what they didn't mention was the bike was correctly jetted with their pipe versus the very lean jetting the bike comes with stock. The proper jetting alone makes a MAJOR difference in performance, even with the stock pipe.

I might be wrong but I certainly welcome CT Racing to respond to this post. I think we have a few extremely well respected KTM engine builders on this site that will agree with me, a 30% increase in horsepower with all other factors being equal is unlikely.

That guy has been building motors for as long as I have been alive from what I hear. I seriously doubt he would take the time to argue with you. As far as that goes, the same thing was said about DASA and no one argues with him now. Have you not looked at the stock exhaust that comes on the Polaris's? Unless you have girl hands, your thumb wouldn't go in the hole. CT's mufflers are built off the old SuperTrap's and his headpipes are huge. I guess thats just TT for you.

After riding, building and racing motorcycles since the late 60's I see endless outlandish claims over and over about exhaust systems (and large numbers of other gadgets).

No doubt it improves horsepower , torque and throttle response, but dozens of manufacturers have made the same outlandish claims for a large number of years. They also have in house dyno charts to prove their point. Unfortunately rarely can anybody else duplicate the results.

The ONLY way to get a 30% increase over stock is with other changes besides simply "changing the pipe". The old Supertrapp company made the same ridiculous claims for years. Everybody had one, nobody with any sense ever believed it. We sure thought they sounded good at the time though.

There was a long thread on ktmtalk.com concerning pipes. Many companies were claiming up to a 12 hp increase over stock on the 525. In testing virtually nothing gained more than around 3 hp over stock, a much more realistic figure considering the design of KTM's stock pipe.

Apparently you also failed to read my post which clearly stated that there were jetting changes to optimize their pipe for the machine. The stock machine picks up a few horsepower with jetting changes alone, something not shown in the dyno graph.

I'm not here to argue with anybody, even though you wish it to be so. I would on the other hand think it would be a benefit to the large community at TT to hear from a specialist on this machine and let us know what they are doing, what the proper setup and installation of their product is, any potential problems and or proper jetting/needles to extract the maximum performance from our machines. A LOT of manufacturers do so on this site. It benefits us all. :bonk:

IM WITH UD ON THIS ONE. if someone can prove me wrong than more power to them and i hope they sell lots of stuff. 12hp gain from an exhaust and jetting seems insane. now im not a motor builder or factory racer so i can only speak from the experience i have had but you can get a 12hp gain out of an ltr450 with exhaust, fuelatv intake, dyno tune, cam, and high comp. piston. if you told me i could get all that hp from just an exhaust than id be a loyal follower :bonk:

ya and dirtvvheels claims 14+ hp over stock on a yfz with a slipon. Ktm has a completely new motors every few years. the ones that are in the polaris's are nearly2 or 3 generations old and they are further detuned by polaris to make emissions. The ktm's that are out now are there xc/crosscountry quads there supposed to release there mx model in the fall with the newest sx dirtbike based engine. dont believe me pick up a dirtbike mag and ktm 99% of the time is making at least 2 more hp than the japanese bikes.

Email CT and ask him about it. My wife works with a guy who raced years ago and is now paralized and knows the owner really well. I've never heard anything bad about Allen Knowles. He told me 10 years ago how to set my Banshee up and I did what he said. There wasn't anything that could touch it when I learned how to ride it. He told me to leave it stock. He said pipes, no airbox, and a jet kit. He didn't even try to sell he his. A guy who makes a living building motors and tells someone to keep theirs is a straight shooter in my book. Trinity Racing and the guy who works with my wife told me the same thing. When you talk about rejetting, I assume you are talking about an MX bike with a open muffler. ATV's come so corked up they make the WR look good. Rejetting with the stock mufflers that come on the atv's is a waist of time because they don't let enough air out to really benefit other than it running a little better. Trust me, I've owned a few to say the least. As far as the dyno goes, if he got a bone-stock, the way you buy it # and then one with his pipe/set-up, how could the dyno be bad? I'm not saying that KTMTalk is wrong but you need to actually look at the Polaris 525 exhaust before you bring up dirtbikes. Its like comparing apples and oranges. In bikes, its like comparing the stock WR muffler to the stock YZ. The "KTM" atv is different and I doubt you gain the thing. What you initially called "bullshit" was the POLARIS. TOTALLY different stock exhaust and airbox.

Uh no it has 44 HP stock. The Polaris 525 has 37-38 because of the small airbox/filter.

the new KTM's prolly make somewhere in the 43hp range stock...that puts the polaris right at about 38 or so...

Now I haven't built as many motors fro the quads as I have from the old RFS dirt bikes but I do know a thing or 3 about the engine. We here at Thumper Racing have built literally 1,000's of KTM RFS stock bore/stroke racing and bigbore engines.

It is possible to get 58/60 reliable hp out of the RFS motor with the right cam, compression, porting, and big bore kit. This is with the stock KTM exhaust. I'm very sure we could get the Polaris/ktm very close to that number with a few tweaks here and there using the same set ups. When you get into stroking it we move into the 67/68 hp range. but you must build the motor correctly. I have seen major failures using the factory stroker kits and incorrectly assembled race motors. We at Thumper Racing have a very proven record when it comes to the RFS motor no mater the size.

From my experience changing a very restrictive pipe and[u/] intake can very well add 7 hp 14hp IMHO for the Polaris is pushing it but it also depends on how restrictive the stock system is and what the stock motor is capable of in the first place. I know for a fact the stock KTM 2 wheel exc is putting out about 44-46 hp and the RFS sxf motors were in the 48-52 range depending on whether is was a 450 or 525 with every thing being stock except jetting the motor correctly.

Dyno numbers on the internet are like the special olympics.... even if you win you're still retarded LOL

I could care less about dyno numbers on forums or websites, I have seen over a 15hp difference between dynos.... food for thought

I have a POLARIS 525 and my friend just purchashed one also. He ordered the exhaust from CT Racing for his. The claim is 37.59 sock HP to 48.94 hp on the Polaris 525. I like most of you feel it's no way you can pick up 11.39 HP with an exhaust and re-jetting (he supplies the correct jets with the exhaust). I even emailed them asking if the improvement numbers were correct; I should hear back later today. I let my friend know I didn't believe the claim so he called CT and asked them. They said the numbers are correct and that the Polaris exhaust is very restrictive and with the CT Racing Exhaust and re-jetting the 525 Polaris will make the advertised 48.94 hp. We will see very soon as my friends system should be in tomorrow. BTW the KTM 525 puts out 47.92 stock and 51.56 after CT exhaust.
