Metal Slap

Hey brother thumpers. I've got a 2003 wr450 and I was wondering if all these bikes do this or do I have a problem developing. Here's the deal: If the bike dies, say at idle or warmup, etc. etc., it sounds like theres a metal slapping noise as soon as the bike has quit. Is this the piston continuing it's rotation or could it be something worse? I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks in advance,

Shawn:banghead:

Mine does it too. I can't remember if it has always done this or has just started. It doesn't sound good.

Does this sound occur while in neutral or in gear with the clutch in?

Nuetral. Never listened to it while in gear.

I think it is the starter clutch free spinning mine does it too.

Is that bad?

^^^

yep.

What is happening?

What is happening?

Hard to say without hearing the noise but, it could be the auto decomp plunger droping down again as the cam speed slows below the level when the auto decomp plunger is held up out of the way?

Can you tell where abouts in the engine its coming from?

I can't tell exactly where it is coming from. I was just in the case and when I put the starter clutch in, there was nothing wrong with it...per manual. I didn't even ride it before I noticed the sound.
