Cracked rim

4 posts in this topic

This may be the wrong place to ask this but I trust this forum more than any other forum. Can a crack about 5mm long along the edge of an excel rim be successfully welded to never worry about again? The crack is along the welded seam where Excel welds the two seams together from the factory. It would look something like this( not a real crack):

From previous experience, repaired / welded rims always crack again in the same area the repair was carried out.... Go get a new rim, it is safer and cheap insurance the worst wont happen.

Rims are welded in the first place, and they don't always crack at the welds, so from that standpoint, welds can be trusted. But when rims start cracking later down the road, it's generally related to fatigue. Welding fatigued metal is just a stop gap.

The crack is developing where the rim was first welded from the factory.

FYI it is not my rim.
