fuel question?

3 posts in this topic

i was looking through my owners manual and i saw under fuel in the spec. section that says "premium unleaded gasoline only with a research octane number of 95 or higher". wondering what the research octane numbers about? do i need to run higher then 91 octane?

The research octane number (RON) is the method of rating fuel in some other countries such as Japan. In the US we use the (RON+MON)/2 method, which is the average of the research octane number and the motor octane number (MON). The MON is always lower than the RON. 95 RON fuel is about 92-93 octane on our rating system. 91 octane is fine at most elevations.
