Sounds like the bike is due for a good check up.

Check valve clearances and cam chain for stretch.

And the chain guides also the cam chain tensioner.

Yes, there is a gasket: it's the copper crush washer still on your cylinder.

Update,

Cam cover off, bike at tdc...

something does look wrong...

:busted:

Cam lobes are facing directly away from eachother.....that checks out....

What looks wrong, the alignment marks?

The marks are suppose to be aligning @ Tdc. Cam chain is stretched.

I can probably change the chain myself, but I really dont feel like it. Should be going to the shop next monday...

Im already looking for a 2stroke replacement... ktm300 or CR/KX500 :busted:

The cam chain is fairly inexpensive.

You already have the top off,all that is left to do is get the flywheel and stator out of the way.

To be honnest, I dont feel 100 percent comfortable in doing it a first time.

Originally I thought the cam jumped a tooth, so I moved the cam one tooth forward. The stroke was heavy and I realised something was not right. I had to open the head up again and put the the cam back in its original position. This is when I found out that the YZ - WR cam timing is slightly different and the intake cam is suppose to be flat rather then slightly tilted.

Did you get a good look at the cam chain guides(dampers).

No I did not, should I be concerned ?

yes if your chain has that much play it may have worn or broken them.

ended up being the big end... with a worn crank gear, I had to do a whole rebuild. replaced everything... valve's, crank, barrel, new piston and rings ect ect.
