wanting to put a thumb throttle on my wr450

on a completely stock bike??i think it should come jetted right from the factory am i not right??

The FCR carb is very sensitive to elevation and tempature changes.

Do you think when they box that bike up in Japan they know exactly where it will end up?

Do you think dealers dont swap bikes?

And if you buy a used bike could it have been originally from a different area?

this is where my raptors fuel injection came in handy....still dont get why just the jd jet kit alone isnt enough to completely rejet the carb you gotta buy the gytr one to....why wouldnt both of them come complete with all you need??its like buying a dirtbike with no tires just rims

I think you may be confused about some things.

And don't take this as gospel, but I don't think you need both kits.

I think the GYT-R kit is for the AIS removal, which includes some jets.

And the JD jet kit is just jetting for the carb itself.

You may want to read more about the AIS removal and maybe some of the yamaha gurus can chime in with some helpful hints.:busted:

forgot to mention it does have the ais removal otherwise its completely stock....

If you have the aftermarket pipe,I would install that then get it jetted.

If you are waiting to get the pipe I would pull the baffle out of the silencer and do the grey wire mod and the throttle stop then get your jetting dialed in.

When the AIS was removed it probably should have been jetted.

I'm an hour from Detroit, so we might have a little more humidity than Ohio as far as jetting we be pretty close? I have a yz DR.D slip-on and the ais jet kit for my 06 that I purchased new last summer, o-ring mod(used 2),grey wire, moved the breather hose for the head to the air box, all the cut outs for the air box, etc., Baja kit, plated, set the AP and I use Rotella T for oil which I change to often @ a sacrifice of a little hp. loss and some clutch drag. All I can say is this thing rocks, 5gear wheelie with a hard pull on the handle bars and 4gear gas only( trust me I got some ugly pictures on this, lol, and that was before I piped it! ) so jetting wise -- 165main - 48pilot - yz needle 3-4 clip down F/S 2 turns out and it is still a little rich on those hot days(+75)!! I ride mostly with my B-law(05crf450f,hot cam, stock exhaust) most of the time in a drag we are side by side till I pass him, but the crf does have a harder hit it's a traction, weight, gearing thing? Get an exhaust and a header pipe, do the mod's, and then play with your jetting. A stock wr450 is IMO about 34hp., modded you'll get close to 48-50hp., vortex ign./ hot - cam/ hc piston upper mid 50's. You need a full exhaust system DR.d or fmf4.1 stainless steal system, ti bends to easily or a used yz system will work?

I bet you think they come greased too.:busted:

I assume that you have done the ais kit already and have used those jets, right. Don.t know much on the jd kit or other jet kits, I just went and bought a few jets when I bought the dr.d pipe, but the stock main 165 is great for my bike? Just pic up a 162,168,170 main and a fuel screw. Don,t know if the stock main is a 165 on a 07wr450f, put the pipe on and see how it runs, chances are that it's ok with the ais kit jets? I think there are differences between the 06 and 07-10 ais kit.

MY JD kit was not a success on my bike. I recommend a YZ needle and the proper Jets.

If your on a budget definitely skip the JD jet kit! Buy a skid plate or something

Man no love for the thumb throttle. you know it is all about what you get used too, people who learned when they were young like it but for me idk how anyone can stand riding with one. i rode snowmobiles, quads, bmx bikes and what not and for me i like to have my arms in the same spot all the time. so when i started riding dirt bike i could just not get used to it. so i have been riding thumb throttles for years now. i got one on my crf 250 and my yz426. i have even converted a few of my friends to a thumb throttle. just go with what you like.

thats what im talking about:thumbsup:

You could never convert me to a thumb throttle.

I ride with 1 finger on the front brake lever so I need my thumb to hold on with.

But I learned all those bad habits when I raced.

And I guess my riding style of being up on the tank, with my foot up by the front wheel, while I corner would just be ackward for me in a right hand corner. Somehow I get the feeling that thumb a throttle would be hitting my leg, possibly goosing the throttle.

anybody know where i can find out what the stock jetting is to the 07 yrs???i took the carb off(dam pain in the ass)....and what jetting i should go with for the full pro circuit t4 exhaust and i want to cut open both sides of the airbox and stick in a K&N

Your owners manual should tell you what stock jetting is.

And there is a data base for jetting in the sticky notes of the WR/YZ forum.

then you will need to find someone with elevations and temps similar to yours, and similar mods.

Do a little reading!!!
