250, 450 Forks Interchangable?

4 posts in this topic

To make a long story short,

will the front forks from a 2007 YZ450F bolt up to the clamps of a 2008 YZ250f?

I'm guessing that valving and spring rates are the only differences.

Can someone please confirm this as different part numbers are shown for the two assemblies.

Thanks

Well, the short answer is yes, they will fit in the clamps fine.

The longer answer is that the 250F forks are a little shorter than the 450 forks and the valving and spring rates are also different.

Would this have any effect on performance such as turning or stability?

Would you compensate for this by running the 450 forks a little higher in the triple clamps?

The valving and spring rate will affect handling, but that isn't hard to change. The length shouldn't make a huge difference since they are pretty close. The 08 450 forks are shorter than the 07 and earlier forks. The 450 forks used to be 12mm longer than the 250F forks, but for 08 they were shortened a couple mm so now the difference is even smaller. You should be able to slide them up in the clamps a couple more mm than the 250F forks would sit and get the same geometry.
