Oil Strainer Screen (frame) 04 YZ450f

I changed my oil and filter this weekend and decided to go the extra mile and clean the strainer screen located in the frame below the drain plug. I overlooked the instructions in the manual where it says to pull the bolt holding the oil delivery line which makes removal of the screen quite a bit easier. When I pulled the screen out of the frame I bent it up a little bit. It is normally round but now it is slightly triangle shaped towards the bottom near the bolt and has a crease in the same area from bending it sideways a bit. I tried to straighten it the best i could but found myself only making it worse, so I put it back in the frame and finished the oil change. I am pondering spending $40 on a new screen and bolt, or just using as is. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks,

That is your feed oil supply line, the life blood of your engine flows through it. If you knew your coronary arteries were half closed off, would you take up marathon running?

Replace the line.

I didnt bend the oil supply line, just the screen. Sorry for the confusion... I didnt really make that clear.

That's different, or at least, it could be. If it doesn't look as if it will restrict the flow at all, or be prone to collapse, just run it.

For $40.... I would replace it. :ride:

I did the same thing - where did you find the replacement parts? i have looked for hours online and can't find one!

thanks!

You mean you can't find it in the catalog, or no one has one in stock?

The screen is in the frame, is it not? Number two on the frame page.

I don't think so. the screen is attached to the part with soddering it looks like. the part is pushed into the oil pan from below, and the bolt holds it in place.
This thread is about the oil screen for a 2004 YZ450F. Why are you posting links to the parts catalog for a 2006 YZ250F?

I can't find this part - are you sure you meant the frame page, #2 is not filter net on that page.

Read my post above.

I think you were refering to the schematic for a 2005 yz 250f, I checked and you are right that looks like the right part to me on a 2005.

But.... I don't know the 2005, and my question was for a 2006, for 2006 its not listed on the frame page... as I mentioned earlier.

thanks again though - I am now sure the part I ordered is the right one.

thanks!

Now, answer the question: what are you doing hijacking threads, slipping 250F questions into the YZ450 forum, and changing the year model as well?

Total rookie here - I have still not totally learned all the navigation tricks here yet. My apologies for wasting your time - the earlier responses were to my 2006 yz 250f question... sorry for taking you down a rat hole.

I deleted the misleading strings where I could.
