Horn project

So! I just bought a very clean '04 WR450F that I'll be picking up this weekend.

There's my new baby.

Anyway, I want to install a horn on it. Not just any horn mind you. I want it to sing Dixie when I hit that magic little button.

I'm curious if anyone's tried doing this before, even just wiring up a custom horn to the system (aside from a clown horn).

Whatever you do, use a relay between the power and the horn as the button will not pass the current needed to properly work any horn.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like it I want to get this to sound right, I'll have to build my own device. The Wolo horns frankly suck for sound, and the trumpet style horns are too big to put anywhere safely on the WR. If I really wanted to do this I could use one of my old ancient MP3 players and hook it up to a small loudspeaker.

Ideally I'd be able to actually make a small chipset that contained the tone and piped it through a speaker at will, unfortunately I don't have the EE skills to pull that off. One day!

Nah, that won't be near loud enough. A chip that will produce enough power will require a power supply. You need 125db minimum.

I've installed three home-grown dual-sport kits and never had any trouble at all with the horn button not being able to pass enough current for a single horn.

You need a relay if you are using an aftermarket horn (or lights, or winch, or whatever) to take the draw off the switch and on to the relay. The stock type horn draws nothing to speak of.

No relay here...Im running my dual sport kit and HID through the main power switch :thumbsup:
