Plated wr450 gearing

Wondering how many teeth on some new sprockets I need to make my WR more road friendly. Plan on riding 50/50. I wonder how fast I can safely go with out messing the bike up?

I went one tooth larger on the front sproket, and it is now an acceptable compromise: 60mph cruise, 80 wide open, and I can still keep my hand off the clutch in the really slow stuff.

What year?

07' and up Krannie has the set up I use as well 14/50. It's a good 50/50 compromise... I still don't like extended stretches of highway and 60mph is a little more than cruising RPM, at least for me.

It's an 09, I'm just looking for a better setup for zipping around town.

Go with the 14T C/S sprocket... it's easier to swap out, cheaper and will give you what I think you are looking for:thumbsup:

I have a moose aftermarket case saver and I had to tool it out a little for the 14T to fit... I don't know how it fits with the stock POS case saver..

depending what you call 50/50. I ran part of the national enduro loop around here in the mountains with 15-45. It was horrible! Had to keep it on the clutch like mad. Open jeep train and fire roads are perfect, but technical rocky terrain is a real bitch...

Dune riding is do-able, but maybe slightly too long...

15 / 45 is some of tallest gearing I have ever heard of anyone running on their WR.

I was suggesting 14/50

It seems that there is a difference in steel and alu framed bikes.

The steel came out stock with 14-50. That barely gives you any top end. If you hit the open sections, 65mph the bike seems to be having a hard time.

Change that to a 15t upfront and its marginally better, top end is around 89mph. enough power everywhere. With the 15-45 setup I can cruise 70mph all day without any trouble. Ive had it at 99mph on gravel on the GPS... Its pretty damn quick for such a light bike though. The gearing is not intended for anything technical whatsoever. If you are going across the state or country, something with taller legs is better then maxing it out at 60mph.

15-50(06) is a good option if you need to ride to trails around home. 15-48 is typical rally (Dakar) type gearing that is being run in Europe.

What is the stock gearing on the newer WR's and how much different is the final drive?

Youre right Steve - 07' + are 13/50. Primary gears are different in the gear box... so your set up is not as tall as I thought but it's still pretty tall especially for any kind tight single track...

On my 04' I used to run 15/50 for the Desert here but would run 13 for most of my single track riding.

I tried a 12T on my 07'

is that 12 up front not heavy on the chains?

is that 12 up front not heavy on the chains?

It seemed to roll fine it was just way to low for my tastes...

but remember im not running a 50 at the rear, im running a 45?

I run 15 /48 on my 07 to give me a fair balance between highway speed and still having low end. But the is some trade off

I stuck a 16t on mine. You could really feel it with the tall 1st gear

But it was great on the hiway

16t? without a casesaver I assume?

My 01 WR 426 with a pipe and jetting topped out at 89 mph with stock 14-50 gearing. It was just hitting the rev limiter. Not bad for stock gearing. But got passed by a 00 WR 400 with 14-48 or 47 but just barely. He hit 90 we were running across Soggy Dry lake at the time.

Adding one tooth up front is about the same as dropping three teeth on the rear.

Should fit if you grind the case saver just a smidgen

what gearing would you guys choose to mainly have a 07wr450 with 17's that is gonna be used mainly around town and i want enough bottom end to bring it up in third easy but still cruise at 60 without killing my bike

Are you talking about 17" rear wheel or 17 tooth front sprocket?

14/45 gearing & SM 17's on your 2007 will give you 3rd gear power wheelies just off idle in low rpms.

I have a set of used Warp9 17's with tires, rotors, 45t sprocket, axle sliders, peg sliders, chopped kickstand, spare speedo, everything you need that I maybe selling if your interested. I can email pics, details, & price.
