am i asking too much for my bike

i have a 2000 yz426, it has the hot cams exh. w/ auto decomp cam, new rotating assy with weisco piston, connecting rod and crank. with new bearings and seals, new timing chain, and has an aftermarket carb (freshly rebuilt and jetted). with all the goodies. blue anodized engine plugs and the rest is stock. i just got the motor rebuilt and it isnt even broken in yet. i was thinking of asking 3200$ bucks for it and people are telling me that is way too steep. am i asking too much, hell its practiclly a fresh bike. amy input would help, i realy dont want to give this bike away for 2000 bux. thanks for the info

Sorry, but yeah, $3,200 is pretty steep for a 2000 426. 2K for one with a rebuilt engine is probably fair though.

I picked up my 05 for $2,100 last year. Granted I got a steal of a deal, but the deals are out there.

thats what i am thinking i am going to do. it would be stupid for me to pay 1700 for the bike, drop 1500 for a new engine (that hasn't had a full tank ran thru it yet) just to turn around and sell it for 2000. i am not here to give a bike away. the only reason i was thinking of selling it is due to me breaking my tibula and fibula in my right leg last weekend. but i'll break my other leg before i hand the bike over for that price. thanks for the heads up guys.

Yeah, if you can't afford to take less than $2000, keep it. I paid $1500 for my well-maintained '02 YZ426 with brand new plastic on it, so in comparison anything over $2000 for an '00 YZ426 sounds a bit steep, even taking into consideration what mods it has.

Don't do what I did. I had a '99 Banshee that I dumped thousands of dollars into. In June of last year I dumped about $1500 into the quad, on top of God knows how much money I put into the engine, suspension, etc. during the time I had it. When I sold it the next month, I sold it for the same $1500 that I dumped into it a month before because I needed the money and I couldn't get it to run right. While I'm glad the headache's over, I still wish I'd have just hung on to it, just so that I wouldn't have let all the money I dumped into it go to waste.

The market is terrible for sellers, and good for buyers. I've seen 06 YZ450s as low as 2500. Thats a good deal considering that bike sold for about 6500 3 years ago.

im not sure what the market for a 426 motor is but parting it out might fetch you a little bit more the 2000 if you know what your doing.

When I was shopping for an '06 for Junior in June of '06, a dealer offered to sell a leftover, in-the-crate '03 YZ250 for $4700 +tax & docs. He may still have it, for all I know.

$3200, I just paid that for a clean '06 YZ450F.

damn, maybe i should have just bought a new bike instead of rebuilding the motor on my 426, seems like it wasn't worth the money. but it is over and done with and i am glad to have my bike back, just not too happy about the broken leg. and i am not looking foward to more broken bones, hopefully 1 broken bone is good enough for the right of passage.

little upgrades to the suspensions and bearings and it will preety much be a brand new bike, that you actully knows and i hope, like.

Don't feel bad, I have a 03 470 that has over 11k in it.......it will be a museum piece in my house before I just give it away. It is about how much joy you get or got out of modding it.....do not ever look back on what it cost you.....unless you want to throw up :worthy:

I don't think this was mentioned but the fact it is a green sticker bike (it's a CA thing). I have seen good condition '02 with asking prices the same as '03 and '04. Don't know if they are selling at that price but I can see the value of a greensticker bike (that is why IF I get a newer 450 I will be keeping my 426).

Anyway, with all that said, I still think you would be lucky to get $2k and that would be after having it listed for a while. You can always stick it on Craigslist and see what happens...

I sold 2 06450's a few months ago for $2500ea and one 05 for $2000. I was quite happy to get that. It will be interesting to see what Yamaha's contingency package will be for next year. If it is the same as this year I will sell my 08 probably for $3000(with a wr ignition) If they cut or eliminate the contingency I ll keep it. last year I got about $2500 in yz bucks AND I was then able to call my racing a business and show a pretty good loss that helped my taxes. It really changes the decision to wether to buy, sell or hold and the value of 2 yr old bike.

Hate to tell you that, but it seems like that's exactly what happened. You dumped more money on the bike than it was worth. Now the only thing to do is keep it and use it for a few years until it doesn't hurt to let it go for $1500.

yeah thats pretty steep. my buddy had an 01 for sale low hours only trail ridden for $1700...

@ $4700 plus he probably still has that 03' cause OTD will sell you an 08 YZ450 for $5199 out the door!

$2k is probably a bit high even for the 00' unless it is street legal then maybe $2500

426 is a nice bike to own though and since you know everything's fresh just keep it and enjoy $1500 worth of your bike then sell it for $1700 in a couple of years.

yea, the plan is to keep it. i just can't accept a 1500$ hit. i guess i'll just have to get better at riding in the sand. maybe learn the "art" of crashing.lol
