Any pilots out there?

The black jet pictured is an F-18. It was tested at the Dryden Flight Research Center in 1995.

The funny looking things on the nose are for enhanced rolling.

Yea, you can tell it is a test bird with the flight test pitch, yaw vanes on the wing tip stations in lieu of the normal heaters. Is that a spin chute housing on the tail between the engines?

This is NASA's High AoA Research Vehicle (HARV) I think they were able to achieve 70 deg sustained alpha toward the end of the program
