Purchasing a 2006 YZ450F

Havent posted for a while on here, but hope someone is around to reply.

A friend of mine is selling his 2006 YZ450F for $3,800. It is in mint condition, he babies all of his toys and takes care of them.

Is this too much? Should I try to get him down a little bit or what?

Also,

Coming from an old 1984 Honda XL350R, this is going to kick my *ss all over the place. Used to ride the YFZ450 Quad, but going back to 2 wheels for another shot at it. :doh:

Any replies about the typical cost of a 2006 in good shape would be appreciated.

I paid $7000 for my 2006 YZ450F LE when I bought it new. It was worth it, but it would have been nice to only have paid $3800.

You said A) He's your friend, :doh: It's in mint condition, and C) He takes care of all of his toys.

I say go for it.

It's actually a little high, theses days. I paid $3200 for mine a year and a half ago. It had been ridden twice. $3000~$3500 is about right.

I paid 2300 for mine two months ago. Economy is tough... the guy wanted 3000 and took my offer of 2300. Needed brakes and tune up and rides like a dream.

I would'nt say low ball your friend but it's worth about $3 grand.

I just picked up a brand new 2008 yz450f $4500. I bought my 06 for $4400 in 06. Sounds a little high but if its near new and your friends, it might be worth it:thumbsup:

would you guys that own 06 yz450f say that they are good bikes that are still competitve for the average rider today and what is the biggest complaints for the 06 yz450f from the people that own them or is there any?

Whether the price is high or not is a hard question to answer without knowing what used bike prices are like in Alaska.

But I do know that the 06 YZ450 is a great bike.

I loved my 06 450. In Georgia, I would pay between $2,500 and $3,200 depending upon condition. I changed the air filter and oil often and never had one issue with it.

Take that back, got to get it jetted right first. They came very lean stock. I had to change my pilot jet twice a year for summer and winter riding. I loved that bike.

The location can make a huge difference. I only paid $5k for my new 09 YZ450F, and listed my 07 RMZ 450 for sale at just $3k, and have gotten no calls on it.

no offenese but although reliable as hell i didnt care for the yzf450...and i rode a guys 07 at the track and just couldnt get comfy on it at all..and the guy was no means slow and had a shitty setup i think it was just the bike...personally when it comes to 450s i do like the crf 07-08s 450s the most...well that is cause i have rode there 09s but more importantly i am extatic about the '10 yammie 450 thoguh =)

I really like my 06, I bought it new in April 06 for 5k out of pocket expense. They are very nice bikes, but the big complaint is handling. They tend to be really pushy in turns want to flop around on you. Setting the sag is supposed to help... it didn't really do much for mine. New triple clamps and having the suspension re-worked are supposed to help.

Yes, they're competitive. The biggest complaint is that they tend to push unless you sit well forward.

I've found that speeding up and making the bike work causes a lot of the issues to go away... suspension adjustments (although my toying is somewhat limited) has proven less than effective for me.

My son resolves the issue by riding it as if it were a big 125. He slides the back out with the brakes entering the corner and gets on the gas before the back swings back in. Works for him. Messy being behind him, though.

a dealer by me has a left over 2006 yz450f what do you guys think its worth? he says he will go 4300 but thats without fighting him on it at all. i figure if i wait til this winter he proboly go around 3500. my 2002 yz426f is blown up and i have the motor all apart now and im starting to think i need to stop the bleeding on this bike. its going to cost about 2 grand to fix. that 06 is only a couple thousand more and its new. i could part my 426 out and proboly get 1000 at least. it has a street title i heard that might be worth some money. what do you guys think the price on a new 2006 yz450f should be???

The 06 is nearly as good in the handling department as the 09 (I have owned both). The 06 spanks (seriously, spanks!) the 09 in low to mid range power in stock form.

The CRF450R doesn't feel right to me at all, perhaps ergonomics, but I've ridden a Yamaha for the last 7 years and the CRF feels cramped. (I'm 6'1", 180) and love the Yamaha feel.

Get the 06 vs pre 06 or post 06 if 3800 is your budget limit you won't be sorry. Price should be a bit lower though.

Get the 09 vs 06 if you can afford it AND a new pipe.

Get the 2010 if you're rollin in dough, wear diamond studded watches, pimp a 50K truck and are looking to gamble on a cool new design. :busted:

Get any new 06 thru 09 vs the 426 for 2K in repairs.

Most importantly...Over and above all, don't ever get a Honda! :thumbsup:
