2002 WR426 Cylinder Discoloration

5 posts in this topic

I have been out of riding for about 10 years and just picked up a 2002 WR 426. I was looking the bike over and noticed a discoloration on the cylinder exterior. It's like it's a different metal than the head. Is this normal and if so, what is it? Thanks for any help.

Mine looks pretty much the same way. I think it's the result of different manufacturing processes...I believe the cylinder is "as cast", and the head gets some bead blasting or shot peening to improve material properties.
