Why should I *not* sell my YZ426?

I found a local 07 YZ450 in mint condition for $3000 and I'm really tempted to buy it. I know I said I'd never sell my 426, but the shiny aluminum on the 450 is distracting me. Let me ask a simple question: Why should I not sell my 426 and get a YZ450 instead?

Another thing I'm thinking about is the green sticker. I may be moving back to CA within the next couple of months, and the green sticker for the 426 is a plus. I don't want to be limited to MX tracks in Southern California for part of the year.

you wont get much for the 426, so unless its in bad shape id just keep it.

and ya get the 450 its great bike and a sweet deal.

Sell it, you aren't married to it. No reason to go through life wanting things. Its only a dirt bike, there is basicallay no where left in so cal to ride anyways, so you may as well poach whats left and who cares what color the sticker is. Besides if you really ared you'd be lokking at a green sticker bike anyway. the manufacturers can make them all green sticker but us suckers keep buying the red stickers so they keep making them.

Keep it and buy the 450, 2 bikes are good, you always have a spare. Mike

I went from a '00 426 to an '06 450.

Actually, I had the 426, an '05 YZ250 two-stroke and an '06 450 all at the same time. My goal was to choose one and the 450 was the winner. The 426 was a great bike for its time (kind of like the '93 CBR900RR) but its time has passed if you can get the '07 450 for $3k.

There is no need for the 426 unless you want a spare for someone else to ride. Seriously, after riding the 450, the 426 will just collect dust. Cold hard truth.

what is a red versus a green sticker?

in cali, it somethin like the emissions rating.... i guess only green stickers can ride trails and stuff while red stickers can only be run in a closed course :thumbsup:

Not quite.

State ORV areas and some Federal BLM lands in California have different seasons during which they are open to use by one class or other. Red sticker bikes are in fact "closed course only" machines, but they can access most areas during the appropriate season if equipped with sparkys and adequate muffling. The YZ426 was "grandfathered" into the Green sticker category, as are all off-road models made prior to 2003.

My spare bike is a KX250 and I don't want to keep that. I thought about selling that and the 426 and picking up the 450, where I'd end up almost breaking even. I know the 426 is past it's time, but honestly for what I use it for it's a great bike and I have no reason to get rid of it. It's in great shape and since I got a great deal on it I could easily sell it for what I have into it, but I like it and I plan to keep it.

Now I just found out a friend of mine is selling his KTM 250EXC (2t) for a great price. I'm thinking of going to the dark side... I already have a buyer for the KX250.
