E start doesn't work after I stall it.

If I stall it (eg: gear too high) the e-start doesn't work in neutral. I have to kick it. You can hear the e-start work, and hit too much resistance. Once I kick it, and kill it and restart it, it is fine. The battery is brand new, and works fantastically the rest of the time.

The sudden stop of the engine has trapped the auto decomp pin in the retracted position. With the bike in gear, and the clutch lever out, pull the bike backward a little to move the piston back down the bore far enough for the AD pin to extend.

This also happens at times on my '07 and have also found that rocking it solved the issue.

This will even happen sometimes when shutting off with the kill button... it really sucks on the start line:foul: Cause you cannot even kick it unless you are superman :)

Which is why I always back the engine up against the backside of the compression stroke when I set up on the line.

Drop it in gear (or leave it in gear), pull the bike backward until it hits the compression stroke.

Because the engine is being turned backwards it stops against the end of the compression stroke, and not the beginning of it, and the decomp pin is free at that point. It also means that the engine will have one free revolution before it hits compression for real, and this can help the starter motor build up speed.

Since I start manually on my YZ, I turn the engine against compression with the kickstarter when they raise the banner, since the bike starts best from that position, but when I back it up first, I know the decomp will work correctly.

Even more embarrasing is when it happens when you stall at a checkpoint :usa:

Ah ha.. that must be what got me too.. I stalled out in my first race (heat race) but I couldn't tell why it wouldn't start, and I couldn't hear the starter motor hanging cause the rest of the pack was blowing by me :banghead:

I will try to remember to rock back, then clutch it and hit the starter.. I just jumped HARD on the kick start.

I have also noticed, that even when the E-start *can* turn the motor over, it seems to not be able to get it going fast enough to start in gear. If I shift to neutral, it seems to work better. I have hell finding neutral in a hurry when I am trying to start it after stalling though. I don't *think* its clutch adjustment, but more like some sort of neutral sensor that changes the starting characteristics of the bike in neutral. I heard there was a neutral sensor, but I thought the point of that was to limit revs in neutral?

My '07 does this from time to time, too. I usually just give the button a few quick pushes to help get the engine over. Man, the e start has made me lazy!!!
