Dealer cost of 450

Does anyone know what the dealer cost of a 2008 YZ450F? I would assume that cost varies by volume.

Anybody have a ball park idea?

I doubt its that high. Dealers on eBay are selling them for less than 6K.

We have a dealer here selling them for $4999 + fees, not sure how much fee's are. Sure has me thinking about upgrading from the 03':thumbsup: .

It's nowhere near that high, and "invoice" price is not what it cost them. The cost to the dealer varies greatly from one dealer to the next, as some higher volume dealers get rebates and flooring incentives from the factory, and even these will vary during the year at the same dealer. It's complicated enough that sometimes even the dealer doesn't really know on a per unit basis. But suffice to say that you're not going to find out what it is, and that if the dealer sells below invoice, he can still make money on the bike in most cases.

the dealer here said 5000 out the door. so that comes to around 4400 for the bike but he told me he is taking a hit on it which is pretty believeable because he has had the bike for over a year and needs to move it.

Its funny how bike prices work. In a world where everything keeps going up in price, dirtbikes really haven't that much.... well MSRP has, but who pays MSRP?

I gave right at $5,000 out the door back in December of 01 for my 426. And it looks like I could get another YZF for about the same money....

from what I got from a buddy thats a dealer it's about20% less then retail, but volume has a lot to do with it also, I'm in the middle of closing out a deal right now for a 08 leftover 450 for $4709 OTD so the deals can be had if you find a high volume dealer trying to move units

$6499 is dealer invoice on an (09) YZ450F, I mis-read the original question. A leftover 2008 would have a slightly lower cost, and yes there would be an incentive from Yamaha to help the dealer move the bike. Generally speaking though on a new bike 250f or 450f there is only about $1,000 in mark up. However larger volume dealers do receive breaks on dealer invoice

Its very common for many dealerships to unload mx bikes for below or right at dealer invoice in order to move product and boost there allocations for the following year.

And yes bike prices HAVE risen quite a bit in the last seven years. 2002 is when the first CRF450 came out, it retailed for $6299. Currently most 250F's retail for more than that. Also in 2002 a YZ125 retailed for $3999. A 2009 YZ125 retail's for $5799!!!

Yeah depends on the dealers volume theres a dealer here in Newark CA that turns a lot bikes around and sells the 08-09 450's for 5990 otd i bought mine for about $700 more at the beginning of the 08 just to keep some dealer loyalty and get dealer cost on all myparts for my 450 and my R1....

Best I've found is at Colorado Powersports in Boulder, but it's not that low....:)

I live in NE IL/SE WI and work at a dealership up in WI. Most of the dealerships around here are charging 100 above cost and just take the holdback as their profit.

$100 above INVOICE is not $100 above COST. Cost is the invoice price LESS the holdback and any other incentives, etc., so if the dealer sells the bike for $5600 with an invoice price of $5500, then takes a $900 holdback, he just made a grand on the deal, and the true cost of the bike was actually $4600.

The whole purpose of the holdback is so the dealer can show the gullible public an artificially inflated price the he paid for the unit, so they will think that's what it cost him, and be less prone to push the price below that point.
