7 posts in this topic

Just drove 1,700 miles round trip to get this one. Almost mint cond. It was a one owner pretty nice!!! All stock, and really easy to start even cold mornings. Any suggestions on mods, exhaust maybe, deff. some graphics. Clean bike but needs a cosmetic make-over.

I have a 2001 426 and love it. I have done the following mods and am real happy with the setup. Learned about most of this stuff from the guys on this site. They helped me save time and a lot of guess work!!

Maxxis IT tires

Bark busters

Uni 2 stage air filter

magnetic drain plug

O ring chain H.D.

6 oz flywheel weight

FMF power bomb head pipe

Stock gearing (good for all around riding)

Stock muffler with billet pro moto end cap (worked the best of the 3 I tried)

Power Now valve on carb

Zip tie mixture screw on carb

stock main and one size smaller pilot jet

450 accelerator pump on carb

Hot cams auto decompression cam (best mod of all!)

Noticed in one of the pictures you don't have a guard over the header pipe. If you plan on keeping the stock header pipe, I would get a guard or header wrap to put over the top of it. Burned a nice hole in my pants the first time I went out when I got my 426, fortunately there wasn't any skin contact.

it looks like he doesnt have the bungs welded on for the guard... those guards are like 80 bucks. I wish they werent so expensive, the one on my bike is pretty beat up and bent.

That is one of the reasons I went with the header wrap. I found it here http://store.newlevelmotorsports.com/thblexinwr2x2.html for a decent price. I tried the suggested ties, and they didn't work too well. Went to Home Depot and got hose clamps that work just as well for a fraction of the price. Granted the pipe still gets hot, but I'm hoping its not hot enough to burn my pants again (haven't had the opportunity to test it out, if you know what I mean).
