Sold my bike, have questions on a new one

Well I sold my bike and I'm ready for a new one. I've been browsing adds and a lot of the '06 yz450f's seem to have work done to the engine such as rebuilds, why? My 10 year old yz400f ran perfect and strong, why would a '06 need engine work? Here is one I'm considering but the engine work scares me and whats the purpose of heavy duty clutch springs? Will that make the clutch lever stiffer? Pending the advice from you all I may call on it. The suspension is already setup for my weight which is nice. When searching on here I'm really not seeing any engine problems with the yz450f's, everyone seems to feel they are bullet proof.

I don't know that the '06 needs any more work than the 400 did. It's a little hard to tell because there are a lot more of them then there were the '98/99 models, and people are using them pretty hard. I have not honestly had any real problems with either of the two that I own, and the first one we bought is over 2 1/2 years old with over 150 hours on it.

And if anyone should have had problems with a clutch, it should have been us, with all the technical sections my son likes to chase through in the desert, but the bikes have worked great all along with the totally stock original clutches.

Well gray do you have an opinion on the craigslist bike I listed in my first post? I'm just trying to figure out why it would have "new piston and rings, new cylinder, new valves, new crank, and new bearings." I guess as long as the work was done by a reputable shop (if we have any) it should be ok. My budget is $3000, I might go a little over it to about $3200 if I need to.

I think I'd keep looking. That one is has likely been somebody's weekly racer. Buy someone's once monthly trail bike instead. They're out there. Keep looking. The second one I bought for $3200 was verifiably ridden twice in the year before I bought it.

There, you see the original graphics (or perhaps a reproduction), the original rear sprocket, etc. This tells you it's a fairly low mileage bike.

Take 35 $100 bills to his house and show him 30 of them to start with. Let him work you up to 32, and walk away when he won't take it. Call him back that evening or the next day and see how he feels about it, maybe go $3300. You might also want to mention the Kelly Blue Book price (look it up).

^^ that is just what I needed to hear, I didn't even recognize the original sprocket. Thanks for pointing that out.

Trade in is about $2500 and dealer price is about $3700, KBB did not list a private party price for some reason. I guess the bike is worth $3500. It's a two hour drive away so I guess I'll have to call and ask how firm he is on the price.

Okay I'll keep looking. There is another one for sale that looks clean from what I can tell. All stock except for FMF exhaust. Asking price is $3500 though.

Sorry Grey that is def not a stock rear it has like 12 or more round holes where as the stocker has what 6 or 8 kinda rectangular holes.

It's identical to the stock 49 on mine, which has two trapezoidal holes between each pair of bolts for a total of 12. Save the picture to your desktop or zoom with your browser. The holes aren't round, and they aren't evenly spaced.

They are asking $3200 for an '06 yz125, are you sure about that $3200 price on a new '06 yz450f?
