I too, am a newbie to this site and to this bike. I, however have been riding and doing my own wrenching for over 40 years. After picking up a 2000 WR400 I started doing the search for all the mods. Not to sound like a jerk, I have never seen so many different ways to do something. Does Yamaha just wire these bikes any way depending on what connectors they have? I have read where it's a 2 wire conection, a 6 wire connection, it's on the left, it's on the right, it may or may not be wired into the kill switch, and it may not be there at all. Please, I'm not picking on this site, I am a member of several and along with the FZ1OA this is one of the better ones. I am headed out to cut the first grey wire I find on this beast and then hope it will start.

The Grey wire is at the CDI. Location of the CDI has changed over the years, hence the confusion over the location. It has always been the larger of the plugs, check your manual for the warm and fuzzy. No manual? Go here: http://www.yamaha-motor-europe.com/community/service/manuals.jsp

Other mods are removing a wire that goes to the neutral switch but I have not found the removal to be of any benefit.

There have also been airbox changes over the years but removal of the norkle and the snorkle plate is very similar.
