just got a 426

hey guys, im new to the site and did my research on bikes and just picked up an 01 yzf426. the thing is insane off road and has tons of power. its a pain in the ass to get use to starting it with the decompression lever, expecially when you are tired. other than that the bike is crazy. so just wanted to thank everyone for all the info on this site that led me to buying the 426. plus i got a great deal so it was meant to be i guess.:bonk:

I still have my 01 426, you give it about a month & the decompression will be something you won't even think of when riding. One trick I tried to do is park at the top of hill, even small slope, & then just bump start it.

i did the 450 cam mod but used a hotcams with decomp and it starts a little easier but i still need the decomp. i posted a couple days ago but did not get much responce. power is a lot better than the stock cam.

congrads on the 426, it has to be my favorite bike.

You have some kind of problem if your still using the decompression lever with an auto-decompression cam. You should be able to kick it like a 2 stroke.

Bear in mind that there is no need to go beyond the point where you feel compression. Push it up against compression, reset the lever to the top and kick it right from there. There is no need to move the engine beyond TDC with automatic decompression.

Not having ever had a 'real' 4stroke i'm a bit new to the whole decompresion lever starting. My RMZ250 just kicks like a 2t first time every time.

But i've just sold an RM125 for about £1200 and i've no intention of putting the money in a bank so thought i'd reinvest it......

get it man! i have been riding mine for a week now and it has insane power. you will get used to starting the bike real quick. the decompression lever is actually a theft protection piece because most people that dont know how to use the lever wont be able to start it. good luck! if you buy the bike you will love it.

I'll go and take a look at it this week end if I can. If I can start it then I think I might make them an offer.

they are so awesome its worth the starting issue. you just have to have patience and you will get it. mine starts first kick hot or cold.
