has any one had clutch slippage?

i had some clutch slippage and burning today and the only thing i can put it down to is the oil i am using.... i have been using Maxima 50% syn blend. Tonight I cleaned up my clutch plates, and they are still in spec. I'm going to try regular oil, anyone else experience this?

The '07 runs one less plate than the '06 as a part of the effort to reduce the lever pull. I've heard of several '07's having clutch problems earlier than expected, and Ive been suspicious of this. I doubt your oil has anything to do with it.

I'd replace the clutch springs. The springs get weak and don't hold enough clamping force on the pack. There is a way to measure the spring, but for the price of the springs, I'd just replace them.

Like Gray said, the OEM's are fine. I think EBC sells them seperately too.

If you use stiffer springs, you will have higher lever effort. If you're willing to put up with that, convert the clutch to an '06. It's a better clutch, and still only two fingers (my son uses one). Otherwise, stay with OEM parts.

i did find some on gnarly parts that are 10% stiffer, is that a good thing?

10% stiffer springs will make a big difference at the lever. But, the clutch will react with a better feel, but it will be harder on your left arm. Kind of a catch 22. Now you can mix the springs up, say your basket holds 6 springs, use 3 of the +10%, and 3 stockers. Keep changing it up until you get the performance and lever pull your looking for. Or, just get some more stock springs from the Yammy dealer.

i like the idea of putting in the 06 clutch, from what i see for part # 's . All i need is the 06 pressure plate, 1 extra plate, and 1 friction, 6 springs.

9 of 5TA-16321-00-00 PLATE, FRICTION (same as '07 + 1)(if your existing 8 plates are in good condition, you can just add one here)

8 of 5JG-16325-00-00 PLATE, CLUTCH 2 (different thickness)

1 of 5JG-16351-00-00 PRESSURE PLATE

6 of 90501-231E9-00 SPRING (again, different from the '07)

1 of 2S2-16380-00-00 PUSH LEVER ASSY (the release arm)

The release arm is needed because the '07 has a higher leverage ratio, which is how the lever effort was reduced, and will not lift the pressure plate far enough to free 9 plates, which is why the '07 clutch has 8 instead of 9.

I just got all of the above parts to convert my '11 to the '06 clutch. I was also going to order a Magura clutch. Would I need to get one for an '06 and not an '11? I assume so but would hate to ne wrong.

Guessing just a bit, but I would say to use the Magura for the '11, as it replaces part that go in place from the release arm up, rather than anything internal.

What I'm not sure of is whether the '06 release arm is going to work out for you. The part number for the '10+ is different from the '09, so I'm not sure how it will match up. Be sure you check the diameters and length and position of each section of the shaft, even if you think it will fit. Transmission oil is fed past the release arm shaft, and using something under sized could result in a loss of oil pressure.
