1.2L is the total amount you fill a dry, rebuilt engine with. An oil/filter change takes 1.1 (38 ounces).

Proper oil change procedure is important. I advise you to visit the Common Threads sticky at the top of this forum's index and review the threads on dry sump oiling systems, and the problems surrounding the lower oil filter cover bolt.

Scroll to near the bottom of the page and find a link to manual downloads, too.

In summary, the simplified process goes like this.

> Run the engine for about 60-90 seconds. Shut down.

> Remove the drain bolt from the front of the frame down tube. Turn the front wheel to one side and hold a pan up near the plug, as oil will travel some distance across the floor otherwise. Replace and tighten the plug.

> Stuff some paper towels or shop rags under the filter cover and remove the top two bolts. Then, while holding the cover in place, remove the lower bolt quickly. Remove the cover. Replace the filter and cover.

> Remove the drain plug from under the rear of the crankcase. This drains the sump oil. Replace and tighten.

> Refill with the correct amount of oil. Start the engine and run for 60-90 seconds. Shut down, wait 20 seconds, and check the oil level with the dip stick.
