Voltage Regulator Help

Ok, I tried to ask this question a couple of days ago, but I don't think I made it specific enough: For history on the issue, look HERE.

I'd like to know if there is any reason you can think of why a YFZ450 (quad) voltage regulator wouldn't work on an '05 WR450. I'm figuring that it might work because they both run a very similar engine with lights and e-start, etc. I do realize that the part numbers are different, but am thinking that charging and lighting demands will be the same. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

well the first problem that pops into my head is the fact that the yzf has a lower output stator. so there's a good chance the rectifier will be smaller too. Cross check the part numbers .

My guess is that since the main number is the same that the regulator imay be the same however the wires look like they may be a bit shorter so you might need to do some splicing.

stator output should be the same on the yfz(quad), basically the same engine, the plugs may not be the same but i can't think of any reason why it would not work. Another option is baja designs sell regulators for around 30-40 usd, no plugs on them but with a wiring diagram or a multi meter you should be able to make them work. All that will happen is you will blow the regulator or your bulbs.

If you go with a BD regulator you will have to modify the stator to combine the stators and float the ground. A lot of work to save $20!

Thought I'd post an update for those who might be interested.

Yes, a YFZ450 voltage regulator will work on a WR450. The only difference is that the wire length is different between the two. I have a feeling it's the same way with many other models/years. So, if you're willing to do some wire splicing, you can replace your regulator much cheaper than buying the stock replacement. (there are way more YFZ regulators on Ebay than WR regs for some reason)
