Wheel bearing question

5 posts in this topic

the previous owner of my 99 yz400 I recently purshased, apparently thought the inner wheel spacer was not needed

To make it worse, I didnt notice it. Im not in the habit of seeing if it is there..... it is just assumed :worthy: .

So I changed the tire, torqued it down, and blew the bearings.

My question though, is are the bearings supposed to be open bearings? that was what was in there. OR should they be sealed bearings, and if so, both sides, or just one?

I can get them from a local industrial bearing supply, but i need to know for sure should they be sealed on both sides or just the outside, and grease on the inside of the wheel hub

That was what I thought it was, just sealed on the outside, but figured Id ask.

I run bearing house bearings, sealed both sides....About $10 for the pair and I have never had an issue....Originals are open cage.....
