04 WR450 - smoke at high rev's.....

I have a 04 WR 450, and I'm the 3rd owner, so I have no idea how many miles/hours are on it.....

I noticed it has started to smoke a bit, only at high rev's though (just under the limiter....).

I change the oil and clean the breather every 500km's, and oil filter every second oil change.

Rings only, or...more? This is my first bike in 20+ years, and I just got it this spring, and don't know much about the new 4-strokes...

Also, will it hurt anything to run it until winter?

Bike still seems to run strong, no smoke at idle, or low rev's, no idling or starting issues.....

When a modern 4 stroke grenades it can cost more to fix the bike than it's worth.

The bike is warning you that it's tired.

I'll take that as a "no" for running it as is till winter....

I'm going to asume (and...start searching on here...), that there is a "kit" available to "freshen up" my motor?

What should be done....rings, piston, ....cams, valves...??

I would say piston and rings fo sure and maybe the head needs freshening up.

I don't think you'll be hit too bad.

Doesn't winter start next week up there?

it starts the same time it does in new jersey .

im assuming its blue smoke ? , you could do a compression test , and then a wet compression test .

Yeah, blue smoke...well greyish actually

We probably got another 2.5 months of riding left......
