yz to wr ignition swap(need baja lights)

whats the conclusion? im looking to maybe do this mod in the future in hopes i can adapt fuel injection to my bike when it comes available on the new yz's

Any reason you didn't use the 100W kit from trail tech? Looks like a simpler mod...

the 100w kit is for the wr

Ahh. Well so much for the easy route. They need to rename those 4 wheelers something else.

Damn 4 wheelers... always messin' up the singletrack, now they're messin' up this thread too...:excuseme: j/k

Don't give up, I am still working on this. Getting a wr cdi and wiring harnass off e bay was easy. Getting it to work, not so much. The mechnical part was easy. Anyway, I am hoping it will work this weekend..I hope.

Don't give up ...you can do it!

This thing is starting to test me. I've gotten my rocket scientist Dad involved. We got it working. Ran the light. Everything checked out. Very happy. Tide down all the wires, put the tank and seat on and took it out to my little practice track, the field by my house. Ran fine for about 2 minutes then started running bad and finally quit. Back to garage.

In putting it together the only way it would run was with the battery connected. Not sure why but it was showing that we were putting more current in then it was drawing. I say it would not run without the battery that is not quit right. It would run but not well. Anyway, after a few tests we believe the regulator/rectifier is bad. I do not know if we friend it or if it was defective. It also seems to me that it should run without the battery. Any ideas? I have to go out of town for a week for business so won't be able to work on it till then. It's going to bug me all week.

It is going to work but it is going to make me crazy first.

is your stator stock or modded or higher wattage....if its the ladder of the two you will an aftermarket rectifier and regulator....and you will need the battery for it to run right.

Yes I do have a high output regulator.

This is a question for you hard core techies. I had this thing working. It would run my hid light and charge the battery at idle. All good. But we make one mistake. We then ran a ground to the frame just for insurance so we thought at the time. I now know that the battery will not charge with a ground to the frame and I believe we fried the regulator when we did this. Sound right?

I am getting a new reg and will try it next weekend. One more thing is bothering me. It will kinda run with the battery disconnected. This is my question, if I am sitting in the desert with a dead battery after changing a tire and forgetting to turn off the ignition switch will this thing not start?
