if you have to buy a lot of it, maybe we can split it.. i live in SF.. let me know..

Try a marine hardware store.

none of the places you listed has link for me to purchase ss steelwool.i tried finding ss steelwool on the net and no luck.there have been a couple people on TT who said they bought it at there local hardware store.i know none of hardware stores from redwood city to san fransisco sell stainless steel steelwool.i used to use it to pack my 2-smoke silencers along time ago but i cant remember where i used to get it.i think maybe the guys that said they bought it at there local hardware store were full of sh!t.

Try calling Cherokee Steel 1-800-729-0334 in Atlanta. They are one of my vendors. They handle all types of steel.

freestyle..

sorry.. didn't go so far as to see if you could order from them.. i will check my local hardware store..see what is up and let you know.. i doubt they have it.. but ya never know..

Just a suggestion, but try the dish detergent area of grocery stores. I have seen S.S. pot scrubbers there that are nothing more than coarse steel wool...

thanks motorod, ill call them tommorrow.chaindrive, most of pot scrubbers arent stainless steel.if SOS pads were stainless i could scrub bike clean and pack silencer while bike was drying.

I wasn't talking about SOS pads (we all know how badly they rust when left next to the sink). My wife has a SS fist-sized scrubber much like the plastic ones (for teflon pans), purchased just because it won't rust. I think it is a commercial one I got while working for a food-service supplier. But it sounds like you found what you need, so the point is mute. Keep us posted on the results.

BTW: these folks have exactly what you want, as for retail availability...?

I just did a search for the company that made the steel wool I have in my shop. They make lots of different S.S. wool for various applications.

Just a "bump" in case you missed my edited reply... :)

chaindrive, thanks ill dheck that place out.what company or brand our the pot scrubbers?do you think your wife would sell them to me?how about a trade i'll give 3 SOS pads,2 scotchbrite pads and a can of ajax for 1 SS steelwool pad.i even throw in a half of bottle of pinesol if she ships me Stainless pads within next 24hrs. :)

chaindrive,i checked out that url.they have exacty what i was looking for.i'll call and order a case of each fiber size tommorrow.they have 3 different fiber sizes im not sure what will work the best so ill try them all.anyone else interested let me know.there website says they will discount large ordered.

I bought a used Big Gun that needs repacked... let me know how much, freestyle. BTW: anyone know why the Quiet core insert is so expensive? Could I make something similar?

McMaster-Carr has it

hi freestyle 111

i once used some stuff called CHORE BOY. it is made of copper or brass shavings larger than steel wool but lasted a good while, bought it at a local grocerie store. hope this info helps. :)

Freestyle..

check one of the other sites i gave you, or search under stainless steel mesh, maybe you can wrap the mesh (they have different sizes) around the finer stuff to keep it more contained...
