Cracked Case on YZ450F. What should I do?

2 posts in this topic

2003 YZ450F with 50 hrs. on motor. Noticed oil leak on left side below front sprocket post crash from friend of mine. Mechanic confirmed this. Mechanic stated about $2,200 for either ground up rebuild or motor swap. Any suggestions on what options are best at this stage? parts replaced vs new motor, online options for both rebuid or new motor and any possible upgrades if rebuilt. Found cases for about $450.00 on Ebay. I realize I don't know what I'm getting if I don't buy new for motor but cost is a factor for complete swap vs rebuilds considering I'm not tech savvy when it comes to rebuilds. I use the bike for our property in the desert with only a flywheel wt. installed. Plenty of power for the dunes and my tired 40 yr. old body. Has aftermarket T4 exhaust and suspension. Thanks in advance. CSM

If it is just a crack in a non-crucial structural area, and if you just ride occasionally on your own property then I would JB Weld it and call it good. Or sell the bike to your friend that crashed it.
