I want to plate my WR 450

What is the best way to purchase everything I need to make my WR street legal? I have been told I will need to install and aftermarket stator. With the WR equipped with headlamp and tail lamp already is that necessary? I know I will need to add, mirror, horn, high beam headlamp and switch, stop lamp and DOT tires as a minimum.

I went with Baja Designs and got it through TT at a better price than thier website. The wiring harness's and the instructions are top notch. No aftermarket stator needed. You do a modification to your current one. I sent mine to them to do it. $30 of piece of mind. No problems whatsover and would highley recommend them.

If you order your DS kit from BD by end of this week? you might be able to get the LED blinker upgrade for free. Because they're out of the standard ones. I just got mine yesterday. $40 upgrade for free.

Thanks guys. Do I need to call them? I am not seeing a listing for the 07 WR450.

I also still don't understand that if the bike already has a battery and stator that run one headlamp and one park lamp why the need to replace or modify the factory one. Can someone help me on that?

Also, how does the DS BD lamp kit look compared to the tight looking factory LED tail lamp and new design headlamp?

No need for a new stator. Buy from www.trickdualsport.com

their kit connects via the battery. I installed it in a couple of hours. When I made a mistake, Dale helped me out.

I have an 05 wr450.

I'm in the middle of a Dual Sport upgrade on my 2008 WR450 and I will most likely be upgrading the stator too.

I'm doing it more as a safety thing but again, I don't think it really needs it. The reason that I say that is if you add up all of the amperages/watts for what you will be running, it shouldn't go above the output rating of the stator (70 watts I believe, but correct me if I'm wrong).

If you decide to go to a DOT legal headlight and taillight then you will probably be pushing the stator a bit and should upgrade/rewind.

I'll be posting something later, but I'm also trying to get a feel for the market on a wiring harness for dual sporting a WR. I have almost completed mine and so far everything is good.

When I figure out how to post a picture I'll put one up of my bike.

I like trickdualsports stuff. I called them. What great people to talk to! I like the fact it does not interfere with any of the stock wiring. If I go through with this I really want to keep the look of the front headlamp and also keep my rear LED tail lamp if possible.

I would love to see more pictures of what you guys have done.

Here are spme pictures of the Baja Designs kit.

That's a nice looking wr kenshaw. I have an 05 and have been thinking about the same.

How do these bikes do on the road and do those tires work ok?

thanks,

buff

I don't ride it much on the road other than tooling around over to a friends house. I have the Kenda Trackmaster on the back and the Perelli MT18 HD on the front. Both DOT. If I was going to ride it on the road more I would definatley change the gearing.

The stock stator has 2-circuits running in series with a center tap. Not sure the wattage but this is my $.02. If the stator is rated for 70 watts max? than you have 2-35 watt circuits. One to charge the battery and one to power the head/tail light.

The BD stator mod turns the 2-35 watt circuits in to 1-70 watt paralell circuit, completely charging the battery. Now you could succesfully add GPS hard wire kits and etc....... without discharging the battery.

I just did my 05 this weekend. Installed flawlessly. The BD kit in IMO is top notch.

all you need to is modify the stator. baja design requires you to do the stator mod when you get there kit. basically the stock stator is dual wound. after doing the mod it takes both winding and turns it into one. i did the mod with no problem. my 03 wr450 is plated and i love it. i have the instructions on how to do the mod if you pm me i can email them to you. i have already emailed these to a few people here.

The stator mod instructions are also on the Baja Designs website under Technical Information.
