08 YZ450F - How much did you pay?

I'm thinking about getting a new ride. A new YZ450F retails for $7099. What should I pay?

depends on your local market, but I'd shoot for $900 under MSRP out the door pricing, that's including sales tax, licence, etc.... I got mine in december for $6199 OTD. With the economy taking a nose dive right now, it shouldn't be hard to get a smoking deal. Be patient though, more than likely you won't get them to lower their price on the first try, or it might not work out with the dealer in town. Research other nearby dealers and make some calls, once you get some decent quotes start making them match or beat the other dealer's pricing. Take your time with it, rushing into it could be your worst mistake.

Anyone contemplating a road trip to Tennessee should first check what will happen when you register the bike in your home state. California, for example, cleverly substitutes a "use tax" for the sales tax they cannot charge, which dumps 7.5% on top of whatever deal you get elsewhere (plus another $50 for the sticker). That turns $5400 into a net $5855, plus your travel expenses.

I only register bikes that I am forced to. I normally buy bikes out of state and ride track only so it is never really a problem. It only becomes an issue when I sell it as it limits potential customers to track only folk as well.

I just bought mine for 6111 out the door

And i got the white one

Got mine 5299.00 in ohio-had to pay iowa state sales tax on top of that

there was some on ebay selling for 4600 otd in ohio last week!

got my 08 yz 450 early in the year, 6400.00 OTD here in Ohio

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback. Time to start thumping on some dealers.

You can't compare OTD prices between states unless you take into account the tax rate of each state. Here in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Washington we get charged 9% sales tax, but just down the road on Oregon there is no sales tax. So a $6,000 bike in Oregon costs $6,540 in Washington...even though the so-called 'cost' of the bike is the same.

Unfortunately, similar to what California does, if we go buy a bike in Oregon and try to register it in WA they charge us the sales tax.

In Wisconsin we don't register bikes unless they are street legal, ATV's are registered with the DNR but not offroad bikes, I don't know what other states are like that, but I have not registered a dirt bike in 39 yrs, so if I buy out of state I pay no tax unless I feel obligated. Mike

Ok - I won here!

As we buy our bikes from greedy folks importing them as used crap from Japan. They bring 2-3 bikes a month. The bikes then fly to whoever calls the happy importer first. No show rooms - no authorised service, nothing.

I paid equivalent of US$9500. Last month 3 YZ450Fs went for US10 000 each.

Anyone keen to move in and establish a dealership and bring loads of bikes and couple of experienced mechanics?

I will bring in local knowledge (including of riding spots which is, basically - everywhere)

I cant help but notice that in florida, bikes seem to be quite a bit more expensive than in Cali. Maybe because the motocross market isnt quite as big in florida so the dealers aren't selling lots of bikes there?? Abernathys is the closest to miami florida that i have found, but they dont ship, which SUCKS..If anyone knows of any good yamaha dealers in florida or atleast in the nearest state, that wont mind shipping, let me know. I'll appreciate it.

If you are willing to drive a bit, Abernathy's Cycle in Tennessee is selling new YZ450's for $5400 OTD. I am half tempted to make the drive myself, so let me know if you go and we may be able to carpool

L.A. Honda/ Yamaha has them for 5800 OTD. Thats for a white 08.

6K OTD at a Tucson Dealership. Told them that I wouldn't pay a penny more.

Ok my advice....right now it is a buyers mkt, pure and simple. Bikes are not moving that fast, dealers want them gone especially with 09 info just released. Remember all manufacturers cut back on production....in this great economy!

I live north of you in Ga. and right now is great negotiation time. You should be able to buy in the 5100 - 5400 dollar range. Any dealer that will not meet this price is a fool. And you now more than ever, have the ability to ask them to meet or beat or walk away. Remember you have the advantage especially if you are paying with cash. Expect the sales prices to drop even more as the release date for 09s approaches. For the absolute cheapest cost wait until the 09s are released......

good luck!

I got mine here in North Carolina for 5500.00 before tax. 5900.00 otd.

I got mine in Auburn, Ca from OTD Cyclesports for $6100 in March....
