I have a 2000 YZF 426. Suspesion is stock(I beleive). I'm 6'3" 290 lbs. I really don't bottom out much but I do notice a lot of sag. Not a track rider but I do like to jump a lot. I'm thinking I need to adjust the suspension. Any suggestions? Oh by the way, the two guys I ride with have '06 KTM's 525's and i have climbed stuff they could'nt and pulled away on trails.

Stiffen up the pre-load on the rear. Tighten the little ring under your rear shock a bit. Worked for me I'm 6'4 240. Or you can try a stiffer rear spring if you have to tighten it up too much. Try to set it at 110 +/- mm rider sag fully geared up.

Yes. If it get's too stiff

A: your ride will suck hind tit

B: you wont have a good amount of travel so jumping will be a nightmare.

C: your ride will suck hind tit:thumbsup:

If you can't get a decent feel from tightening the spring to 110mm +/- it's best to get a stiffer one so that you can maintain the most ammount of travel.

There should be some free sag. Which is just a pinch of sag from the weight of the bike alone. If you stiffen the preload too much you will have no free sag and the shock will top out. Get a stiffer spring. And if you really want a nice ride revalve the shock and forks and get a stiffer spring for the rear. That's what I did and it was the best thing to do performance wise to the bike.

The single biggest improvement you will ever make to the bike is to set it up with the correct springs for your weight. If you do the work, which you can, it will cost about $240.

Until that time, it's just never going to work correctly, and nothing you adjust will fix it.

I agree with Grayracer. Get the right springs for your weight before you waste your time trying to adjust the wrong spring. A good revalve does wonders for the 426's suspension also.

1,000,000% agree with Gray....I'm 6'3" and 235lbs. And it was the best thing that I ever did.. The 2nd and 3rd best was bar risers and a tall seat.

While I do agree with Gray, as I would be a fool not to, (he's the master:worthy: ) wouldn't it be good if the guy tries to adjust before spending the cash? He just might get what he was after. I did.

You're 240, he's 290. He can try if he likes, but it won't work like it will with the right springs, and you can't adjust the front, anyway. I did a couple of '06's for a friend of mine where the father and son are both around 240-250. They were happy with the bikes before, and they still couldn't believe it.

I am the same size and weight as you! The best investment I have ever made was new springs front and rear. MX tech did mine. Good luck!

I'm a bit smaller than you two guys; 220lbs. without clothes and on every bike I've ever owned, putting stiffer springs on has been the single best modification. I ride/race snowmobiles as well and spring rates for your weight are just as important. If you think about it, that applies for every suspension application.:thumbsup:

Spring it.

All aspects of handling will be improved. In fact, I think the biggest difference the stiffer springs in my YZ made was cornering. The bike corners so much better now.
