So I did my first full oil change on my 00 400 the other day nad was a bit perplexed when I discovered that you have to remove/loosen the entire frikin exhaust to get the last long bolt that holds on the filter cover. Is there anyway to avoid this in future oil changes? Any tricks anyone has found?

They fixed that after 2000. Go on Ebay and get an 01/02 WR426 head pipe.

And you don't have to change your filter every oil change.

I change my filter on average, every third oil change

Lol.

At least you will enjoy the ease of oil change #1 and #2 that much more. :ride:

Next time you have that exhaust off, why don't you install a stud and nut instead of a bolt? That way you just take the nut and copper seal washer off and remove the cover. Should fix your pain. WR Dave.

Welcome to the club

Get an '01/'02 header and that'll fix it. They seem to be rare since I've been looking for a while.

You can probably get an aftermarket header for around $150 if you don't feel like waiting for a WR426 one to pop up. Sure beats $290 for an oem one. Seems like it would put it in a place less prone to hitting when the bike went down too?
