american and european bikes

hi all am looking at buying a 08 yz 450 and wondered if there was any difference between american and european bikes.

I think the rear silencer is shorter on the american versions, could be wrong though, also don't know about 08 models but the euro 06 limited edition had the stock powerbomb type header, and the american version didn't. Unsure of anything else.

The european 08 has the power bomb and long muffler the american has the shorty

nice cheers guys the only reason i ask is that i sore a video on youtube of the 08 being tested in america and the spek was realy nice i have a yam anyway but am think of getting an o8 450 and just wanted to check it out

There are a few differences: carb part numbers, jets, chain length, missions. I dont know them all, but those are some.

Some differences:

Model:

YZ450FX - US / YZ450F - Euro

Dimensions:

Euro is 1mm longer

Euro seat height is 11mm higher

Euro ground clearance is 1mm more

Eur/US Frame Caster angle: 26.7/26.9 degrees

Euro trail is 1.4mm is less

Tires:

Euro has Pirelli Scopion Tires and a 110/90 vs US (Dunlop?) 120/90 rear

Chassis:

Rear Shock (EUR/US)

Fitting length

One I.D. mark 262/267mm

Two I.D. marks 268/273mm

Three I.D. marks 259.5/264.5mm

Exhaust:

Euro has a longer silencer with a 'powerbomb' header

For the rest of the specs (carb/parts are the same, they seem to be the same (except some differences in the suspension stock clicker settings). Why the differences - no idea :thumbsup:

Funny, mine is an EURO version but in the manual you can reed YZ450F(X)??

they prob package the same manual since it isn't different enough. they put x in ( ) because it may or may not apply to you.

The X is a year model designator, and is the same for both:

01=N

02=P

03=R (Q and O aren't used, too much like 0)

04=S

05=T

06=V (Uand V look too much alike)

07=W

08=X

09=Y

2010=Z

Yup, its the same manual for the bikes globally. However, in the official model naming, the "X" is only part of the USA,CDN,AUS & NZ models. There are some other subtle differences, hence model code numbers as follows:

2S2B (USA,CDN)

2S2C (Europe)

2S2E (AUS,NZ,SA)

All the diffs are well spelled out in the manual. If memory serves me correctly, there is a label on the subframe (under the seat) that tells you exactly which one it is. In my case, the bike I have here is a 2S2C (Euro), even though delivered in SE Asia & closer to Austrlia than EU.
