08 clutch

can anyone help with a clutch issue im having, 08 yz450f and i ride pretty heavy on the clutch. but not that bad.

the prob is - for the first few laps the clutch slips, then as it warms up its ok. then as it gets really hot it seems to start slipping again.

rode today, and at the end of the second session, the clutch was slipping so i took it out and i did notice it was very dry , although the plates was not burnt or dis-coloured. i think the prob when its hot are the springs are losing tension. but why does it slip when its cold??

anyone any thoughts on this???

cheers.

mark.

If your clutch slips at all, you need to look first at the cable play. You need a minimum of 3mm play in the cable at the lever. The clutch should not slip under a load in any case.

Springs case loose tension if they are heated to about 1000 degrees (give or take), but your oil would have burned completely away long before that, and the loss is not temporary.

theres always free play, and obviously not as much heat as that, but theres somethin wierd going on. any more ideas gray? i know it dosnt sound right but tht exactly what its doing.

Is there play at the actuator arm on the gearbox? And, have you had it out on the pavement to verify that it really does slip?

yeah theres free movement at the arm.

riders been riding for 15yrs, an expert and always gives good feeback etc, if he says its slipping it will be slipping, but i understand your question, sometimes its all in the head:bonk:
