KDX gear oil?

Hi there everyone, I am in the mist of rebuilding a 2000 Kawasaki KDX200. Doing a complete engine rebuild. I run Shell Rotella T 15-40 in my '02 KTM300EXC for gear oil and was wondering would that be OK in the KDX gearbox as well? I have no problems with it in my KTM, but that bike also has a Rekluse auto clutch and that's what Rekluse recomends for gear oil. Also, I heard that you should put more oil in the gear box of the KDX to stop some sort of engine noise. I read that somewhere on this forum. What oil do you guys run in your KDX and how much? Eventually this bike will be getting a auto clutch as well, but probably a EFM auto clutch, as Rekluse doesn't make one for this bike yet:rant:

Thanks in advance for your time and answers

Little Jeff

Yes that will work and yes to adding more oil to quiet it down. Use 1 full quart.

I agree. Started using Rotella in my WR 450. It also had rekluse. Got rid of that big heavy bike and got 2 KDX 220s (one for me and one for the son). Been using Rotella in the KDX for 2 seasons. No problems. I go to Walmart and buy it in the 5 gallon buckets.

My friend had a 1997 KDX220R. When he put in a full quart, it blew a fair amount out of the crankcase breather hose.

i use a full quart. manual says 700cc. or 7/10ths of a quart

the kawi manual says any 15w-40 motor or gear oil. ive used castrol 2t 15w-40 since ive had mine

Sean, I think it is 10w-40 in the manual.

It is 10-40 , thats what i use.

Do most people use a full quart of oil in thier KDX 200/220? I've always run the recomended 700cc's in mine and it does make a bit of mechanical noise. Any problems with it blowing out of the breather like stated earlier?

Not on mine. The previous owner has it routed into the airbox. I didn't mess with it.

I run the belray gear saver 80w. I can't remember how much i put in but i go by what the book calls for, no problems so far

i also run the bel-ray gearsaver but may have to switch (assuming walmarts rotella is cheaper)

Hi

Just got kdx 220 R bein going through it changed oil and filled it with 700c of 10 w 40 semi synthetic took it for mot today and back 14 Kms when I got back oil level on minimum where as it gone

I put around 850cc in mine, brings the level right to the top of the sight glass. I've been using ATF in it for several years now, use the same in the YZ, no problems with either..

700cc will put it at the bottom of the sight glass. If it's not smoking and spooging like crazy (leaking crank seal), put another 100-150cc in it and see how the level stays then.
