85 Plastic Tank

Hi guys,

I have an 85 XR600RF,with plastic tank.My question is there seems to be a white discoulouring around the outside of the tank up to the fuel level mark.

Normally i keep the bike in a shed, but occasionaly it sits outside and i think the damp air and rain is making it look worse.I have tried polish,T-cut etc to try and take it out,but no joy.Has anyone got any tips/ideas to solve this,or will i just have to watch my nice original red tank turn a pale orange??!!.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.XRC

The discoloration (dark) is from the gasoline. If you let gasoline 'out-gas' inside the plastic tank, it will permanently discolor it. I empty my tank if the bike sits for more than one month. The discoloration (light) is from sunlight. The Pigments in the plastic are high frequency light absorbing, which erases color.
