07' 450F fuel. Clark vs. IMS?

Recommended Posts

I've read all of the reviews i could find and have'nt learned much. It seems both tanks are great and both stink, depending on who you ask. i'm not really concerned about comfort, I know I'll get used to the ergo's no matter. But I would like to here from anyone with direct knowlege relating to the install and fit of these tanks. Do the mounts line up? Do the shrouds fit? Does the petcock seat? And how about fuel line routing? Any heat related issues? That sort of thing. I just wanna get it right the first time. Thanks!

I have two of the Clarke "2.6" gallon tanks, which actually hold 2.8. Had I not found the second Clarke used at a good price, I may have chosen an IMS for my second one. My single biggest complaint with the Clarke is that the mount points are too far apart by about 1/4" to line up easily, which makes replacing the tank something of a PITA. Otherwise, it serves me well.

i have had great experience with 2 clarke tanks....

1 on a xr650r

1 on a crf450x

both fit well and no modifications to make them work

the only complaint i have ever heard about the clarke tank is that if you are going to use a stearing stablizer then you have to check with the manufacturer for compatability/clearence with the tank.

from what i have heard ims do not have this clearance issue.

there is a thread on here about ims having an issue with rubbing the frame and creating a leak...........do a search because i would expect that ims has resolved that issue by now.

ps.....there is a warning out from the sergon general indicating that larger gas tanks lead to monkey butt.......... :applause:

I have a 07 450 with an IMS 3.0

I switch it back and forth with the stock tank for mx all the time and it fits great. I can also get 3.2 gallons in it. I use a stock pet cock turned backwards so the outlet points to the carb and use the stock fuel line.

There is no issue with either tank on the aluminum framed YZ450 models relating to damper clearance, whether it be Scotts or GPR.

I replaced a cracked stock tank with a Clarke several years ago on my 01' 426 and the clark has been great. It was 1/2 the cost of the Yamaha OEM tank and is much thicker plastic (more durable). Pros: great price, fits good, very durable, perfect color match Cons: Gas cap takes more effort to screw on and remove (gets easier with time), didn't fit exactly perfect the first time I installed it (tight on the frame, shroud bolts not perfectly lined up), but after being on the bike it now fits just right. I think it just sat on the shelf and took a slightly new shape, but being on the bike put it back to its intended shape. Conclusion: I would definitely buy a Clarke again and I would recommend the brand to other people.

Where did you buy the black IMS tank?

I like it e IMS 3.1, it bolted up perfectly, no leaking petcock, and it looks very nice.

The black looks good!

I was wondering the same thing?

IMO the black looks awesome with the white plastic.?

Thanks, I have the paper work at home and I'll check it tonight and let you know. I think I got it for a great price too. I found this site that shows a 3.0 black.

I just bought the Clarke 2.6 gallon for my white 07 yz450. I got it in black and looks like it came with it! I got it at cyclebuy. Live in California so no tax!! To get black he just called Clarke and special ordered it. 1 week at my door. No problems and happy with it.

I looked at my paper work, and it looks like I bought it through

MOTORSPORTS NETWORK

5198 ARLINGTON AVE. SUITE 103

RIVERSIDE, CA 92504.

Down at the bottom $249.95

http://www.motorsports-network.com/cgi-bin/dbsearch.exe?mdb=/ims.mdb,tbl=IMS,dbtype=2000,template=/aIMS/returnims.htm,DB_Product=Tank%20MC%20Yam

The invoice looks direct form IMS. The part# on the invoice is the same as the # on the IMS web site. No price is listed on the invoice, but I know I didn't pay the $274.95 that IMS is asking.
