Lowering Seat Height

3 posts in this topic

I'm 5'6" and have problems getting both feet on the ground. I've been racing my 2006 450 for about two years now and it's been great on the track, no issues with my height when racing (I'm on tip toes at the starting gate). I've started using this bike on the trails and that's when I run into problems. I've read about pro racers cutting their subframes down and using low seats. Can I do something like that without sacrificing the handling of the bike. I need to slide forward as much as possible when cornering and I'm afraid with a lower seat this will inhibit my movement forward.

Any suggestions for a short guy?

You can cut some of the foam out of the middle of the seat.

Remove seat cover.

Cut foam with knife.

Replace seat cover.

This will get you an extra 1/2 - 1 inch

I have considered cutting down my seat, but I don't want to make it more difficult to slide forward. Maybe I should try an SDG low seat first and just see how it affects the overall handling.
