still haven't checked valves on 07

Okay, I'm slacking....or so I'm told. I've rode my bike pretty regularly since May. I've done a handful of races (12+) and am running practice two sometimes 3 days a week. I change the oil all the time with Maxima Maxum4. HOWEVER, i still haven't checked the valves. Is this BAD? It's starts extremely easy still....cold or hot. Am I being mean to my bike?!?

Check them. It only takes a second. I've had mine since Dec 06 and I haven't had to reshim but I also don't ride as much as you. My old Honda 250F had to be reshimmed twice in a year. Both have been well maintained.

I haven't checked mine either yet and I have had it since November of 2006. I go riding every other weekend, do desert races here and there, and the bike still starts easily and runs like new.

my valves on my 07 havnt moved since i bought it.. A year ago on the 7th. but in that time i have checked them twice. if the bike starts first-2nd kick you really dont have much to worry about but you should still check them to make sure things are in order.. might want to change that timing chain while your in there since you have so many races on it..

i just had mine checked. just got the bike in the fall rode it 2. they should be 15 thousands. mine were at 4. it was a little hard to start and ran hot. so its better to check and not worry, then be broke down. lol

my 05 YZF450 starts first kick literally and is easier to kickstart than my 15 hour old 07 CRF450. I am worse than you as, I haven't checked the valves yet either.

Got a feeling I might need to check the CRF though, it was a bear to start this weekend..

Both bikes get fresh oil every 2-4 hours and clean air filters every ride.

i check mine at 20 hrs = perfect

then at 60 hrs = perfect

I get a kick out of seeing the people at the track trying to get there CRF's started by being pulled by another bike.......Uhhhhh....I think your valves are dished buddy. Hey Berg, keep on top of your CRF maintenance..those things burn oil also. I checked my 06 YZ's valves at 50 hours and at 100 hours..they havent moved.

I've had my bike since 2006 and never had to check them. Starts first or second kick even in freezing weather! These bikes are solid!

checked at 40 hours and they were perfectly in spec. FWIW: Local Yamaha dealer, 5 Star & YTA certified, states they rarely see 07's out of spec.

They probably don't see many '05's out of spec, for that matter.

I have been riding Yamaha 4 strokes since 2002, 250f's and 450's and have never once had to reshim. The only time I even bother to check clearence is when I'm putting a new piston in. Best motor period. Change oil and ride.

Oh, I've checked my '06's, and I checked the '03 a few times, but out of 3 YZ450's over 4 years, I haven't had to adjust one.
