Putting the pig on a diet

Recommended Posts

how much do you weigh??

Well I'm a bit less than the bike:ride:

I'm about 180, pretty fit and don't think I can lose more than 5-7 lbs myself.

I've already got a pro taper bar also that I forgot to mention. I'm looking into the Emig racing triple clamp to fit some crf forks that I won on Ebay, but I don't know if that will cut or add weight. I plan to lose the odometer and cable when I do that.

I hope to shave 10-15 lbs off the beast to make it more managable in tight woods trails.

I guess we'll see what happens.

you lost 3 full pounds or more, now gone once you changed the header/muffler. Kickstand was 2 pounds, front light to a number plate is 2 pounds, all the smog stuff is a pound, throw away the backfire screen. Ti axle bolts, swing arm bolt, stearing stem, three transmision gear rods.

ive seen mods to use a smaller battery off of a 450X, that should get you a few and you can relocate it under the seat. If you search thats been on here with great pics so you can see everything. With batt, battery box gone that should be 5-10 lbs. When i saw that they said it started fine with the smaller battery you just couldnt forget and leave the key on but as long as it starts your fine.

10~15 pounds is huge!!! That is almost a whole spring rate. On the XR650R 15 pounds would make or break a major race. I would love to lose 15 pounds off my 680cc bike. I can feel the big difference when I take the Baja light off, going through the whoops at 70mph. If you let 5 pounds out of the front and back tires you could shed 10 pounds right there:lol:

Search for a guy with the handle RC30 he has taken a lot of weight from his pig.

The fork swap will lose about 4lbs,you can cut down the stator ,lose the case saver, the backfire screen, the overflow tank, grind the engine bolts, take off the heat shield ,the mid pipe mount can go,thermostat,Ti bolts, switchblocks swapped out and a heap more can be done.

My guess at the cheapest way to loose the most weight.

Weights are estimated:

- CRF front fender (6 oz lighter) 35.00

- modified CRF rear fender ( 10 oz lighter) 35.00

- Smog (1 lb)

- Stock header and exhaust for Big Gun full ceramic coated. (6 lb) 450.00

- kickstand (3 lb)

- steel bars for alloy (9oz) 85.00

- top clamp for RSC racing ( 14 oz) 95.00

- stock tires ( up to 4 lbs for both) 170.00

- remove all wire capture brackets and hardware (6 oz)

- odometer ( 2.5 lbs)

- stock air filter/screen and cage for uni (6 oz) 29.00

- stock perches and levers for ASV billet ( 7 oz) 200.00

- upgrade handgaurds ( + 2 lbs) 100.00

- upgrade skid plate (+ 3 lbs) 90.00

- larger tank (+ 1 lb) (gotta have it) 200.00

- Ti bolt kit (2 lb) 350.00

That comes to under 10 lbs lost with the tank/skidplate/tank upgrades: The only way to loose REAL weight is to modify the Engine or the Frame or Wheels.

Don't use the Sidewinder Ti Chain: the 650 will stretch it in ten minutes.....
