02 YZF.... sticky float?? newbie to mx

4 posts in this topic

i think my float in the carb is sticking both open and closed.

last ride went like this..

when i shut down it'll leak gas out of the bottom, failed to check which tube its coming out of, but if i tap on the float bowl the leak stops... of course it's flooded after that.

that's not all. twice it ran out of gas while cruising. quick tap on the carb again and a little work out kicking her over and i'm back on the trail.

easy fix??

i'm sure it's within my mechanical skills to fix this but figured i check with you all here first for advice.

it was running so frigging good the day before that folks i was riding with were complimenting the bike. i think they jinxed me.

also, has anyone figured out how to cure the high speed wobbles on this bike. i already had the suspention dialed in by proprept. it's awesome except at real high speeds. would the e-axle be something that could help with this??

thanks for all your posts, i've learned a ton reading them

Just spring for a new float valve and be done with it.

The fact that you can tap it and make the needle seat does tend more to indicate a sticking/binding float than a worn needle, but it doesn't rule out the possibility that the needle is just old and worn out, either. They're about a $45 part, though, so it's probably worth a try.

You'll have to remove the bowl and check the operation of it. Not brain surgery, but you need to be prudent and watch the details.

update in case anyone has a similar problem.

needle seat were fine..... the little o-ring that keeps gas from going around the seat was dried out.

you can only get the o-ring with a complete needle and seat assy.
