Best YZ450F chain

520 ERV3 is an excellent chain. I don't believe its as narrow as the VT.

did you look at the chart? They look the same to me as far as dimensions..

No i didn't look at the chart. I know we install the VT narrows on all the CRF's. I have seen a few engine cases ruined on those bikes from people running the wrong chain. You can run the 520 VT on any bike..you just cant run a standard width 520 on a CRF.

I went and bought the 520 VT today with a 50 tooth renthal twin ring. Can't wait to put it on. :banghead:

Thats a good choice. I know they are cheaper in price than the ERV3.

I run the ERV3 on my R1 and it has been great for 5,000 miles. My next YZ chain will be a D.I.D. as well. I have a renthal on my YZ and the D.I.D seems lighter and better made.

I had a friend that runs a Renthal and I asked him how he liked it and he said," I don't" because it didn't last. 450's have power and will tear up chains. If you ride hard like I do you need an "o Ring". I used to run DID 520 ERT2 and they only lasted about a month.

I believe that the VT has less mass. (Narrower) The strength is still there, but with less mass I believe there would be less resistance. I have run one before and it was the best chain I have ever owned. You have to use a tool to press and rivit the master link though. I you like to keep your bike super clean and take the chain off to clean this chain would not be for you unless you buy a bunch of master links. (NOT):banghead:

Renthal does not make their own chains, and it depends on which of their chains you look at as to whether it's any good or not, since they apparently don't all come from the same vendor. Their gold O-ring chain is a Regina ORN-6. The only reason you wouldn't buy one of those would be that you can get the same chain for about $15 less with the original brand on it.

Yea, my buddy who own Alpha Motorsports in Rock Hill South Carolina, The best deals on Bikes by the way, just use my name, was not using an o ring chain. He only had less than 7 rides I believe and it looked worn and saggy.:banghead:

Still running my DID 520 VT and love it.

i have a 06 yz450 currently using renthal r1 works o ring chain it's been on the bike since april 08 used on a regular basis on both track and general ground some of wich is sand based running a 14/51 ratio the chain has needed no adjustments as of yet

That chain is a re-branded Regina ORN6. It's about $15-20 more expensive when purchased as a Renthal, but otherwise, it's the same chain.

The ORN6 I currently have on my '06 has been there since September of '07, and it's been adjusted twice in that time.

Anyone have any opinions on the Regina ZR chain? I've been running it for 30 hours with no adjustment needed, but the chain hits the frame right behind the countershaft sprocket. I followed the post on this topic in common threads and am starting to wonder if the chain could be the problem? Besides this I am very happy with this chain.

Hmmm....i have a did ert2 gold chain, and i have to adjust it after every ride??? Anyone know if its just a weak chain or what?? I use chain wax after every ride, and always have it adjusted with the right amount of play.??? Any ideas?

First, it should be an excellent chain. You did not say whether you are running the ZRD or the ZRH. The ZRD, I believe, is the one that uses a riveted link, and that chain is 1mm wider than the ZRH, or the ORN6. But that's only .020" on each side.

The fact that it hits the frame is not too big a deal, unless it's hitting hard and removing a lot of material. Mine hits, but it's a long way from being a problem.

The Z ring Reginas are great, but like X-rings, I think you pay more for the "upgraded" seals than the advantage they have over O-rings is worth, so I don't bother with them.

Depending on the degree to which your chain hits the frame, it could either be something to worry about or not.
