Doug Dubach still running 24mm offset clamps on 08 yz450

29 posts in this topic

I'm not looking to start another debate on frame flex or offsets, but I find it odd doug would be running 24mm offset clamps if there was a change to the forks.Wouldnt it be the same as running 23mm on an 07 yz450?I called drd today and they said doug is still running the 24mm offset on the 08yz450.

The point I am trying to make is that I am wondering why doug would be using the applied 24mm offset if the 08 yz450 has the axle moved back which would make it the same as a 07 yz450 with 24mm offset clamps.Doesnt seem like the 08 would need it.Then again I havent rode a 08 yet.I was hoping if I bought one I wouldnt have to buy a offset clamp.

yes I find it odd -

who at DRD informed you of this?

I would say that I would like to understand why Doug is running a 24mm clamp on a 08.

what advantage is there to this?

Good question! i would like to know also. Maybe the 08 works even better with a 24 offset????

I wouldnt call it nuts at all. Infact, even though the 08 is better at cornering than the 07, it doesnt mean it is as good as it can be. I have been thinking about this recently, if someone had not created this thread, then i would have. I'm wondering what offset clamps would even further enhance the 08 cornering abilities.

to answer your question GA426,I called to ask a question about the exhaust for the 08 yz450 and also asked if doug was still using the 24mm offset and the woman I was speaking with put me on hold and then got back on the phone and said yes, doug is still using the 24mm offset.Im not sure who she asked.

Doug and the owner of Applied are really good friends. Applied has produced some of dr.d 's hardware, radiator lowering kit for example, and the two companies do alot of work together. Doug may still like the 24mm offset or he may be running them to help applied sell more. Who knows? Zip ty offers the 17 or 18mm offset triple clamps. These have to be the most aggresive but they give up turn-in in order to get rid of the push. I like my 08 and once I get a 756 on the front I think it will be great in the corners.

I am more curious why he is useing the 24s on a 08. I will email him directly

thanks

hell, i love my 08 and i think the 742fa works great. What makes you think a 756 would be better? Ive got some 756s and 745s lying around.

I haven't tried the 742FA evrywhere, but but I wasn't too impressed with it. It certainly doesn't work as well as a 745 on hard pack, and in the sand, it felt like the front wheel was sitting on a trash can lid unless I sat on the gas cap.

Oddly, the 745 works better in sand.

Running a Bridgstone m401 A in the front. Love it. Went with the larger size to reduce impact from rocks. 90 / 100 /21

great on tracks, desert and every condition in So Cal. Improved handling over stock tire 100%!

running stock clamps for the 07 and have no idea what the offset is and don't really care.

I ran one of those for a while and it was a mixed experience. Traction was fine, but I didn't like how the front end behaved in furrowed sand and DG. But that was on an '03 with pulled up forks, which is different than an '06+.

Your stock offset is 25 mm, like all the other YZF's, BTW.

I ride in a mix of intermediate soil to sand and the 756 works alot better than the 742 in the sand and is pretty good on the small amount of hard pack I see. The 742 is better than the 739 in the sand but not much better.

Same experience here on sand with the 742. Went to an MS3 and it's a huge improvement.

Ugh... the 742 is terrible terrible. 756 was a night and day difference. No more pushing and washing out... it just plain stuck.
