My New YZ450F!

I have never owned a Yamaha. Went out today and bought a barely used '07 YZ450F. Quick little devil!

It's pretty much straight stock, so I'll be asking some dumb question, but I will try to find the answers in the archives first!

My interest is to convert this bike to a 450 Super Single and race it in WERA. I raced an MZ Skorpion in AHRMA for a couple of years, loved the torque coming out of the corners, but the KTN motards ended up outpowering the class. So since that was a Yamaha 660 motor in there, I have a little Yamaha experience. So I would like to try a thumper again in another class. Got a lot of research to do to find out what will fit from other R1 and R6 models to this bike.

Thanks

my only advice for the yamaha is a rejet..my 06 didnt run worth a shit until i rejetted it! after words it was like a whole new machine (i think realistically i picked up about 3-5 ponies just by changing the jets!!!) the bike started easier and it popped alot less on decel! i dont know how bad the 07's jets were, but on an 06, its a must!!!! nice bike though man!

What is your jetting specs, I'm sick of my 06 popping. My friends call me Schumacher cause I sound like a F1 car.

If the most sophisticated gasoline engines in the world pop on decel, why do you think yours shouldn't?

I like the "POP"

change the front tire if you use it for dirt, this past weekend i was getting into two wheel slides on fire roads and even on trails that never would slide like that, pretty scary the first time it happened, was going like 50ish with a couple buddies on top of this mountain on a fireroad coming up to a turn and went to slow down and my tires locked up.

Think of it not as "popping" but as an air brake.
