04-05 yz450f difference?

Does anyone know if and what the difference between these 2 years are?

I've seen that most parts fit from 03-05 but some only show for -05 only, and other's 03-04.I know 06 went to the aluminum frame and different motor.

The biggest difference between 04 and 05 was the suspension. Other than that there were some small changes, but most parts will fit either year.

The '05 had the first twin chamber KYB fork (the AOSS, Air Oil Separate System) that was then also used on the '06 RMZ's and KXF's. It's a major improvement over the 48mm single chamber fork on the '04, but still not as good as the '06 and later SSS fork, by any stretch. They can be worked into a very nice fork though.

The other big thing was a general softening of the engine's power delivery compared with the '03-'04 models. I've never been on one, so I can't say first hand, but opinions of this run the gamut. Some say the bike is a power house with good top end, and others claim that they had a YZ250F with more snap off the bottom.

If you get a chance to ride them both, that should tell you.

Let me tell you about my 04 - it runs top to bottom with mucho grunto. Low end??? Will tall 15 - 44 gearing road race gearing I can pull the front end up in third at 10mph and run it to 75 in forth - even in the sand. It snaps of the bottom much more than my friends 06. Mine is still all stock and I love it - the forks are not as nice as the 05 and up though.

The brutal low speed hit of an '03/4 YZ450 is a lot like a late sixties muscle car; touch the throttle, break the tires loose. But from experience as the owner of both I can tell you that all that "snap" is much more thrilling than useful. The '06 (which is not really the issue here) will run side by side with my '03 up to 3rd gear, and then pull away. It's entirely likely that some people will turn faster laps on an '05 because of the more manageable power.

perfect answers

I have a 03/04/05 and an 07 in the garage right now. I cant think of 1 part on the 04/05 that are not interchangeable. Even the parts with different part #'s are generally interchangeable. Internal engine and suspension parts excluded.

Every part of the engine that I'm aware of is interchangeable between '03-'05. Some are different, updated, or modified, but interchangeable, nevertheless.

WoW,Thanks guys! All the info and feed back is awsome,I learned alot of different things about the same bike that i had no clue of.

The main reason for my queston's were in regards to aftermarket exaust,The exaust I was looling at was listed only for the 05 yz450f but i was sure all 3 model years were somewhat the same.

Yes, the exhaust is the same from 03-05.

You should have said so.

Like he said, they're all 3 identical.

I think he needs to buy an '08, an '06, fill in the collection from '98 to '01, and then get one of each of the 3 limited or special editions, don't you?
