07 vs. 08

Thanks for the help guys! I pulled the trigger on the '07!!!

I'm pumped. I've never ridden a 450 before and dont really know what to expect... I hope it scares me a little when i first rip on it!

I've been searching around the forum for some break in info, any of you guys have any good specific pointers?

08 is way better bike. I have an 06honda with 22mm clamps, scotts low mount dampner, 5K factory connection works susp, and I like my stock 08 yamaha better....

And have you heard the pipe on an 07 yami? It sounds like its got something stuck in it!

So you don`t even have or have had a 07. You only say that 08 is better then your Honda, well ofc, it`s a Yamaha after all :thumbsup:

The October issue of Dirt Bike had the info. The Stock 07 puts out around 51 HP and the Stock 08 put out around 49 HP. The 08 with a FMF 4.1 system bumped the HP up to 50.

I would have to say i disagree with you, and i am leaning towards the same thing as grayracer. In my mind going with the 08 over the 07 is a no brainer. Yes the 08 needs the exhaust changed (for some people), but it handles and corners better, which any experienced racer/motocrosser will tell you is more important.

49/50/51 horsepower??????????? Like thats going to be noticeable.....What is noticeable is the handling difference.

You will be happy with the 07. Great bike.

The 08 sucks I wouldnt have it.......sike I loveeeeeeee mine even though she has 2 grand in damage right now:bonk:

The 2008 YZ450F with stock muffler is shown with 2 dyno runs in orange power curves.

The 2007 YZ450F with stock muffler is shown with 2 dyno runs in blue curves. The same 2007 with an FMF Q4 slip-on muffler is shown with the 2 dyno runs in the power red curves.

Interesting how the 2007 open exhaust had more low-end, while the Q4 made more top-end power.

We don't sell exhausts and don't have any interest in the results other than getting the jetting right for most conditions. The reason for the low power on the 2008 is clearly the restrictive muffler design. When I have the 2008 again with a more free flowing exhaust, I'll post results for that too.

The stock 2008 YZ450F silencer internals are shown below. The mesh is quiet but restrictive.

The answer to that is no. No screen, no USFS stamp. You might get away with it, but I doubt it.

in i think racer x or transworld they said they made like i thinke 387 changes to the 08 from the 07 the frames changed up i no for better flex going into the turns
